Job Description
Giggleswick School is seeking a Part-Time Theatre and Performing Arts Technician, to support the technical operation and running of the Richard Whiteley Theatre in conjunction with the Theatre Manager. This includes academic and co-curricular school productions, a busy programme of commercial and community lettings and other events. The Theatre Technician will also provide technical support for major school events and participate fully in the annual maintenance cycle of equipment.

Annually 940 hours with the following core working periods:

Late October - Early December
Early February - Late March
June

Outside of these periods hours to be agreed flexibly with the post-holder able to take on additional work when not required. Employed or Self-Employed applications considered.

MAIN DUTIES

Carry out the duties of theatre technician to ensure the smooth operation of all technical aspects which could include but be limited to Sound, Lighting, Rigging and Stage Management.
Supervise casual or volunteer technical staff where needed. This will include the supervision of pupils working in technical roles on productions.
Supervise and assists commercial and community clients during venue hires.
Ensure current Health and Safety Regulations are observed at all time and that work is carried out in accordance with agreed safe working practices
Keep all technical areas clean and tidy including but not limited to the stage, control rooms, backstage areas, prop and costume stores.
Undertake maintenance of equipment as part of an annual cycle that includes cleaning, portable appliance testing and statutory inspections.
Carry out set construction, fit up and get out for school productions in conjunction with visiting designers and other staff.
Job Requirements
Essential

A qualification in technical theatre or experience in one or more disciplines;
Eligible to live and work in the UK
Empathy with Giggleswick's core values and mission
A team player, willing to help with all duties, as well as being able to work alone;
Ability to prioritise work effectively, using own initiative, thinking calmly, clearly and laterally;
A willingness to work at heights
Good written and verbal communication skills - a friendly and professional manner
Excellent organisational skills;
Good people skills with ability to interact confidently in person
Ability to plan and prioritise own workload and use initiative
Good work ethic with the desire to deliver a high standard of customer service;
Willingness to learn and implement new processes.
A bias towards sound operation and live mixing for Theatre would be an advantage;
A demonstrable knowledge, understanding and enthusiasm for the performing arts;
Knowledge of AV setup
