Description:Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly organised and practically skilled, London based, Technical Stage Manager with strong technical awareness to join the team for Gwenda’s Garage, a new LGBTQIA+ musical produced by Out of the Archive. Job Description Location: Sheffield Theatre Playhouse & Southwark Playhouse Rate of Pay: £630 per week + expenses Contract Dates: 22nd September - 29th November About Gwenda's Garage: Gwenda's Garage is a bold, uplifting new musical based on the true story of 3 lesbians who opened a women-run garage in 1985 Sheffield; created and produced by Out of the Archive. Faced with everyday sexism, homophobia, and the impact of Section 28, they fought to create a space for women in manual trades, inspiring the next generation. Featuring original music and a story of activism, resilience, and community, Gwenda's Garage is a powerful celebration of working-class LGBTQ+ history and the fight for equality-one spark plug at a time. After an R&D at the Sheffield Playhouse, it will return as a full-scale production in association with Sheffield Theatres to Sheffield Playhouse and Southwark Playhouse. About Out of the Archive: Out Of The Archive was founded in 2019 by Nicky Hallett and Val Regan.It is a collaboration between writers, musicians, performers and academics and its aim is to animate archival material about LGBTQ+ lives, bringing hidden histories into contemporary focus You can find more about OOTA and Gwenda's Garage here: https://www.outofthearchive.co.uk/ Key Dates: Rehearsals: 22nd September - 11th October Tech in Sheffield: 13th - 15th October Performances in Sheffield: 15th - 25th October Tech in Southwark: 27th - 29th October Performances in Southwark: 20th October - 29th November Working Hours: Rehearsals: max 40 hours Production Week: max 43 hours Performance: max 35 hours Job Requirements Experience as a Stage Manager in live theatre (fringe or mid-scale touring preferred) Strong knowledge of backstage running and troubleshooting technical equipment Experience managing props and basic wardrobe maintenance Confident leading get-ins, get-outs, and running backstage during performances Strong communication, calmness under pressure, and an excellent team player Experience working at Southwark Playhouse or similar venues (Desirable) Must be based in London Job Responsibilities We are looking for a Technical Stage Manager with a hands-on, practical approach to lead on: Managing props (sourcing, maintenance, and making if required) Overseeing costume maintenance (washing, repairs, ensuring costumes are fresh) Running the stage during shows (scene changes, actor support, backstage smoothness) Supporting the get-in and get-out at both venues Being the first port of call for troubleshooting technical issues, liaising with venue technicians and Sound No.1 You will working with a Deputy Stage Manager and Sound No.1 How to Apply Please send your CV to [email protected] by 6 Aug Contact name: Jas Nisic Contact email: [email protected]
