Description:

Job Description
We are seeking a self-motivated, organised and welcoming Technical Manager to lead technical operations of the theatre. As a senior member of the management team, the Technical Manager will report to the Artistic and Executive Directors, delivering high-level technical support for visiting companies while overseeing the production management of all in-house work. This role requires a deep understanding of current professional practices within British theatre, along with enthusiasm for supporting emerging artists as they progress to mid-scale productions. You should thrive in a dynamic environment where projects, schedules and artistic ambitions evolve rapidly, and where creative problem-solving is central to the work.

A key part of the role involves ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of all visiting shows, including managing Get-Ins, performance operations and Get-Outs. The Technical Manager will also work closely with the Executive Director on building maintenance, taking responsibility for the venue's infrastructure, carrying out repairs, and coordinating with contractors on larger tasks. You will supervise the Deputy Technical Manager and a team of casual technicians, ensuring they are well supported, properly trained and effectively scheduled.

Additional responsibilities include serving as the main point of contact for lighting, sound, technical equipment, backstage areas, storage and building-wide systems such as IT and phones. You will uphold all Health & Safety policies, ensuring visiting companies and staff work safely at all times. The role also includes key-holder duties and participation in the theatre's environmental goals, such as reducing energy use, limiting waste and encouraging greener working practices. The ideal candidate will bring at least two years of professional theatre technical experience, strong leadership abilities, proven production management skills, and proficiency with ETC Ion lighting desks and other standard equipment.
