Here at York Dungeon we are currently seeking new, talented Actors on a short-term basis in this distinctively thrilling attraction that will take you back to York’s darkest history!

Ask yourself these questions:

Are you a scoundrel at heart?
When you walk into a room, can the tension be cut with a knife?
Do your friends often say that you’re a traitor?
Do you even have any friends at all?
This role will see the appointed individual be responsible for ‘atmosphere balancing’ – countering guests’ enjoyable experience with outrageous behaviour in order to create an inhospitable and tense environment.

Successful candidates will be provided with full SCARE training including hair, make up and costume.

This is a seasonal role on a part-time basis with the potential to extend throughout the season across weekdays, weekends, and bank holidays. At the present time we anticipate contracts being available from early July and run through to November, with the potential to extend.

To the wrong candidate, this could be the worst job imaginable. To the right candidate, one who displays traits of repulsiveness, who revels in being mischievous, and who has a penchant for the dark side of life – this could be the best job in the world.

You will be an individual with the ability to:

Cause outrage to a confident level
Be resolute in your opinions and gifted in the art of condemnation
Be a personality-driven performer who inspires revulsion
Work comfortably surrounded by rats (both literally and personified)
You'll need plenty of stamina and strong vocal ability (a Yorkshire accent or the ability to perform one would help), plus a real flair for improvisation - an unpleasant appearance is also a bonus.

In order to comply with government guidelines, should you be successful in your application interviews may be conducted initially via telephone or video call. If requested to attend one of our attractions for a face-to-face interview, we have hygiene and safety measures in place, and you will be asked to adhere to these.

These will include but not be limited to, social distancing, non-invasive temperature checks, face masks and the use of hand sanitisers.
