Job Summary

Stage Manager Wanted for Fake Escape's world premiere of David Shopland's 'Cul-de-Sac', running in Off West End in London from 27th May - 14th June 2025.
Job Description
Fake Escape are seeking a Stage Manager for the upcoming world premiere of Artistic Director David Shopland's new full length play Cul-de-Sac, running at an Off West End Theatre (to be announced) in South London from 27th May - 14th June 2025.

Rehearsals will be at Jerwood Space in Central London from 5th - 23rd May, with Get In/Tech across the 25th & 26th May & a Get Out half-day on the 15th June.

The Play:
Wednesday. A Thursday in May. Just after 8pm. Northwood Hills, London... Technically.

Over the course of one very ordinary suburban evening 5 characters are dragged into a new orbit. As the wine begins to flow & secrets are revealed, a surprise guest threatens to irrevocably alter the course of the night. As the evening wears on, the paper-thin veneer of polite society begins to slip & boundaries are crossed with hilarious & heartbreaking results.

Cul-de-Sac is the new play by WhatsOnStage Award & multi-Offie nominated writer/director David Shopland (Saving Britney, Raising Kane). Fusing slam door farce with biting social commentary, Cul-de-Sac is an exploration of post-Brexit middle class suburbia; exploring gender politics, racial prejudice, religion & the ever increasing price of a pint in Zone 6.

The Role:
We are looking for an enthusiastic & dynamic Stage Manager to come on board the team; offering administrative, technical & stage managerial support to the company. The majority of the role will be general DSM duties during rehearsals and operating the show during the production.

We are particularly keen to hear from underreprested candidates from marginalised communities & will be using positive action in the recruitment process.

Remuneration:
£601pw x 6 wks
£274.72 holiday entitlement payment
£150 overtime payment for Get Out 1/2 day on 15th June
Total Project Fee: £4030.72

In addition, if the production averages 50% capacity across the run, company members will each get a 2% share of the profits on top of the above (maximum potential approx £549)

Job Requirements
A good working knowledge of QLab would be advantageous, and DSM experience of being on the book during rehearsals would be useful. However, we're interested in hearing from a broad range of candidates with diverse experience, so if the project and the role interests you, please get in touch.

Job Responsibilities
As the production will also have a separate technical director, this role will largely consist of being on the book during rehearsals; making blocking notes, keeping track of script changes, general support to the director and then operating the show during the production, which is fairly cue-light.
