Sellwood Studio of Performing Arts is a vibrant performing arts studio based in Madison NJ, dedicated to providing exceptional performance and educational opportunities for students of all ages. We offer a variety of classes and productions throughout the year, and boast a teaching roster of high-level, working, professional artists.
About the Production
Sellwood Studio of Performing Arts is thrilled to present The Little Mermaid Jr., a magical musical based on the beloved Disney classic. The production is open to performers in 4th-8th grade and will rehearse three times a week (Tues/Thurs/Saturday) from January-March.
● FIRST REHEARSAL
○ Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
● REHEARSAL SCHEDULE (Tentative plan - may change due to rehearsal needs)
○ Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30-8:00 and Saturday, 3:00-6:00.
■ January: 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, (NO 25), 28, and 30
■ February: 1, 4, 6, 8, 11, 13, (NO 15), 18, 20, 22, 25, and 27
■ March: 1, 4, and 6
● TECH WEEK
○ Week of March 10 (Mon/Tues/Weds/Thurs)
● SHOW DATES:
○ March 14 (evening), 15 (matinee and evening), 16 (matinee), 2025.
Stage Manager Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Stage Manager to join our team for The Little Mermaid Jr. The Stage Manager will be responsible for all aspects of production backstage, including:
● Creating and maintaining a detailed rehearsal schedule
● Calling cues for sound, lights, and setting props during rehearsals and performances
● Maintaining prompt book and script notes
● Supervising backstage crew and ensuring smooth operation of all technical elements
● Communicating effectively with the Director, Assistant Director, and cast
Qualifications
● Prior experience in stage management or a related field (musical theatre, community theatre)
● Experience working with young actors, particularly elementary and middle school aged children
● Excellent organizational and communication skills
● Strong ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
● A passion for theatre and a commitment to creating a positive and productive rehearsal environment
Stipend
$800 stipend + travel costs
Additional
For the right local candidate there is the opportunity to build and teach an associated training program with the studio for local youths interested in stage management and the technical aspects of theatre on an ongoing basis at a more substantial teaching rate
