THE SOON LIFE is a play that tells the story of one person’s journey through birth into motherhood. We are recruiting a stage manager for the premiere production of The Soon Life taking place at Southwark Playhouse this Autumn.

BRIEF:
To stage manage for the premiere production of The Soon Life taking place at Southwark Playhouse
The role includes supporting planning, attending all rehearsals & production & operating every performance
To liaise and communicate directly with director, Sarah Meadows and producers; Phoebe Taylor and Maeve O'Neill (Rua Arts)
The stage manager will adhere to deadlines mutually agreed and any additional deadlines, meetings or days will be subject to availability, mutually agreed in advance

Week 1 Southwark Playhouse, 77-85 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6BD: w/c 8th Sept | 10am - 5pm
Week 2 Southwark Playhouse, 77-85 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6BD: w/c 15th Sept | 10am - 5pm
Week 3 Southwark Playhouse, 77-85 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6BD: W/c 22nd Sept | 10am - 5pm
Production Week: w/c Monday 29th September 2025 at Southwark Playhouse, 77-85 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6BD
Preview 1: Wednesday 1st October | Press Night: Friday 3rd October
Performances:
3 week run of 21 performances: Preview 1 wed 1st October - Sat 18th October 2025 | Matinees on Saturdays & Tuesdays (all matinees are relaxed performances)
Location: The Little, Southwark Playhouse, 77-85 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6BD
The Stage Manager is required to attend all rehearsals & performances including operating & cueing each performance.
The Producer will:
Provide confirmed production budget for all elements including set, set build, props, costumes & technical equipment
Pay for all production elements & provide petty cash in advance when required
Ensure the budget is adhered to
Ensure appropriate license & insurances are obtained for the production including use of water on stage
Book any scenic artists or other freelancers needed for the build or fit up
Southwark Playhouse will provide a dedicated Production Manager for a max of 8 days prior to & during production week, available from July 2025.
Job Requirements
Attending all rehearsals & performances including operating & cueing each performance.
Liaising directly with Director, Designer & Project Manager
Assisting Director in rehearsals regarding staging, creating & updating cue script & logistical queries
Assisting Designer & Project Manager with sourcing props & costumes (including some research & purchases with received petty cash)
Attending planning meetings, production meetings remotely & in person
Assisting with planning of production schedule
Programming Qlab with creative team & venue production staff for LX & SX cues
Operating each performance & providing a daily show report from Preview 1.
Creating & updating a digitalised CUE Script with all sound and LX cues
Assisting with set, props & costumes preparation as well as setting before & after each performance
The Stage Manager will assist with the get-in for production week, technical rehearsals & dress rehearsals & set up for each performance and final get-out.
Job Responsibilities
Fee:
The Fee is based on GBP£500 per week for 3 weeks rehearsal and 3 weeks performances. Total fee: £3000 inclusive of holiday pay. The stage manager is responsible for their own tax and should let us know if they are VAT registered.
Any additional expenses to be agreed in writing, in advance with the Producer or Project Manager.
Any pre-rehearsal tasks are to be mutually agreed, subject to availability.
