Stage Manager for Doris the Dormouse R&DexpiredClown Space |
Description:Job SummaryWe are looking for a friendly, approachable and organised Stage Manager to support our neurodivergent Director in the research and development of our new show ‘Doris the Dormouse’. The end of the R&D will culminate in two scratch performances to invited audiences, at York Theatre Royal's Studio. Job Description At Clown Space we care about our community - Whether you are our audience, colleagues, partnerships or participants, it is important to us that we create work which is for you and what you need from us today. We will always take the time to understand how we can best support you in our space. Ultimately, whether through your creativity or through your wellbeing we will always meet you where you are at. We believe, given the space and opportunity, that anyone can play joyfully. Joy and laughter is an integral part of our work, and we relish in playfully connecting through the stories we tell and in the training we provide. 'Doris the Dormouse' is our flagship children's theatre show, and our first production as a company after 7 years of providing training in clowning, full mask and physical theatre. The Show: Doris the Dormouse begins to hoard for winter, but the cold is fast approaching, and with time running out… will she nest with the best berries in town, or will she have to go without this winter? Against the clock of autumn's end, Doris goes in search of an animal's lost home. Will she be able to find it? Will she succeed and get back in time for winter's beginnings? The show is a revisiting of how Doris became the fable we know today, how her ever giving acts of kindness led her to become the animal held in the highest of esteem. 'Doris the Dormouse' is a show about kindness, community, and what's possible with a little help from our friends. That we are never truly alone, that loss doesn't mean empty and that life can always be full of wonder! We wish to blend movement, music, storytelling and puppetry with a cast of 3 to bring this story to life. The show will be musically inspired by traditional English folk music. We'll be working in collaboration with YTR and NDB1, as well as reaching out to charities doing vital work to support the endangered Hazel Dormouse in the UK. We also plan to tour the final production in April 2026.
