Job Summary

DEM Productions is currently recruiting for a Sound No.1 to join the production team for KING OF PANGEA at King’s Head Theatre this Spring and Summer 2025.

Job Description

KING OF PANGEA is a new musical by Martin Sorrow, in which the protagonist escapes to the magical imaginary island of Pangea to process the loss of his mother. Directed by Richard Israel, and following workshops and regional try-out productions in the US, King of Pangea will have its UK premiere at the King's Head Theatre in June 2025. Sound No.1 Rehearsals From: w/c 26th May 2025, Toynbee Studios, London
Load In/Technical Rehearsals: w/c 2nd June 2025, King's Head Theatre, London
Performances: from 7th June 2025, King's Head Theatre, London
Load Out: 6th July 2025, King's Head Theatre, London

Job Requirements
Operating the production's sound control system, mixing the show, and supporting with all sound department system maintenance throughout technical rehearsals and performances, including all understudy/cover sessions;
Supporting the load in and loud out;
Ensuring the smooth running of the production including running daily system checks and maintenance sessions as required;
Operating and maintaining the sound equipment and integrated set electrics, including sound checks and reporting back to the Designers and Production Management with any issues;
Assisting cast with fitting of microphones and maintenance of all sound equipment;
Working in accordance with the Producer's Health and Safety policy, using appropriate safety equipment; and
Upholding the highest production standards and carrying out any other reasonable duties that would normally fall within the remit of a Sound No.1 of a musical production of this nature based on industry norms and practices.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Skills and Experience:

Previous experience as a Sound No. 1 on a musical of this nature;
Experience as a sound operator on a piece of new work;
Excellent technical knowledge and skills, specifically confidence in programming with DIGICO T software;
Excellent communication skills, and ability to liaise effectively with other departments;
Ability to remain focused and calm when under pressure;
Ability to adapt quickly and work to changed priorities and technical trouble-shooting in a fast-paced environment; and
Knowledge of current health and safety legislation.
