Will Pickvance Productions is looking for an experienced performer to tour within China with Anatomy of the Piano, a one-person show for family audiences. Auditions will take place in late October 2022 with touring planned to commence in late February/early March 2023.
Show background
1-hour solo family show of storytelling and piano-playing, featuring projected cartoons. Written by Will Pickvance, premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2015, it has been presented in the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and has been performed over 400 times across China.
Story
A boy dreams of a spaceship for Christmas but is given a piano. Encountering Bach in a cave, Beethoven in a rage and Fats Waller in full swing, the piano’s music takes him to the Moon. A tale of discovering music and a celebration of individual expression in a piece which features a wide range of piano styles, comic moments and beautiful animation.
We would like to hear from you if you:-
Have experience as an actor/storyteller who can engage audiences of children and adults alike
Have a skilled range of piano-playing genres and are at ease speaking and vamping simultaneously
Are available and comfortable to live and travel in China from spring 2023 for up to 12 months
Based in Shanghai, the performer will live and travel within China for 12 months, supported with visa / travel / living arrangements from an experienced Shanghai-based production team with established connections to the UK theatre industry. Alongside the performing schedule, the job offers a genuine opportunity to experience local cultures and cuisine, whilst meeting new people and travelling in China.
£1700 - £2500 pm + expenses
Where and when:-
October 2022 - Auditions
January / February 2023 - 2 weeks script adaptation and rehearsals in Edinburgh
February / March 2023 - travel to China for rehearsal and touring
