Job Summary
‘For the Benefit of Pablo Fanque’ (working title) is a new show about Britain’s first recorded Black Circus owner, Norwich-born Pablo Fanque. We are seeking a versatile and creative Set & Costume Designer to bring this historical and imaginative world to life over a 2-week R&D period in March 2025.
Job Description
Duration: Freelance, 2 weeks in March (week commencing 17th March and week commencing 24th March)
Payment: £572 per week
Location: In-person at Norwich Theatre (Theatre Street, Norwich NR2 1RL) - with the option to use some days of these days in lieu, to do prep work in the run-up to the R&D in your own space.
Key Responsibilities:
Explore, develop and present set and costume design concepts that reflect the world of Victorian England, whilst enhancing the themes of the production.
Collaboratively working with our partner organisation, Norfolk Museums, to use archived objects, materials and print for historically accurate design.
Work closely with the director and other members of the creative team to ensure that the set and costume designs support all elements of the production.
Design a tourable set that creates an immersive, flexible environment.
Be present during R&D days and offer support with any adjustments or technical considerations.
Manage the design budget effectively, ensuring all materials and resources are used efficiently.
Provide a breakdown of costings and requirements for the future of a full touring production.
Undertake any further duties as may be reasonably requested.
