The purpose of the role



The Senior Sound & Video Technician (BECTU Grade 3B) is a hands-on, operational role working directly on performances, based within the NT Sound & Video department.

You will play a key role in the production process undertaking roles such as sound programmer/operator, radio mic supervision/running, support technician; providing specialist technical services to a consistent and high standard.

Working with and without supervision, supervising and mentoring other technicians. Providing support for Sound & Video Technicians (3A). Initiating, planning and taking responsibility for projects and activities within Sound & Video Department operations. Delivering informal training and passing on skills.



The successful candidate will have the following:

Previous experience as a sound technician within a repertory theatre or other live performance environment.
Previous experience installing, programming, operating, and supporting complex digital audio systems, networks and equipment.
Significant experience of the programming and operation of digital sound consoles and playback software and/or significant experience of backstage sound craft including radio mic fitting/running and monitoring.
Experience supporting productions in development, rehearsal, and repertoire, contributing proactively to the creative development process.
A practical knowledge of relevant Health & Safety standards including but not limited to BS7909, BS7671, Noise at Work, LOLER and PUWER and risk assessment regulations.
