Tero Saarinen Company seeks professional dancers for a new group work by Dutch choreographers Imre van Opstal and Marne van Opstal. The creation will be part of a double bill set to premiere in TSC’s repertoire in the 2022/23 season at Dance House Helsinki’s main stage in Finland. The one-day auditions are held on 14 and 15 May in TSC Studio at the Cable Factory. The audition consists of a Gaga class warmup and improvisation with the Opstals. Applicants should have a professional degree in dance and be available to work in Helsinki during 15 May – 17 June, 2023. After the audition TSC we offers a free workshop held by David Scarantino, based on the technique created by Choreographer and Artistic Director Tero Saarinen.

IMRE VAN OPSTAL & MARNE VAN OPSTAL
Imre van Opstal & Marne van Opstal are Dutch choreographers, renowned performing artists and siblings, who form a creative duo. Both artists have enjoyed successful and prominent careers at the prestigious Batsheva Dance Company and/or Nederlands Dans Theater 1 & 2, before pursuing their own creativity as choreographers. The collaborative nature of their work often speaks to the human condition, limits and possibilities of the body and mind. Their work is known to be multi-layered and surrealistic, with a strong and outspoken dance language known for its eclecticism, theatricality and partnering elements.

Major critical acclaim and nearly 400,000 spectators at leading venues in 40 countries on 6 continents have established TSC as one of Europe’s leading dance companies, since its foundation in 1996. Tero Saarinen and his team also collaborate with other prominent dance groups, such as NDT1, the Batsheva Dance Company and Lyon Opéra Ballet. Other core activities include an international teaching program of TERO Technique, and TSC’s residency programme. Starting from 2022 the group’s repertoire will include works by other choreographers alongside Saarinen.

All applicants will be individually notified about the selection by mid April. Decisions regarding the dancers selected for TSC Auditions held in May 2022 will be made by a working group comprised of TSC’s artistic staff in collaboration with the Opstals. Diversity and equity will be considered in the decision-making process. Choreographers Imre and Marne van Opstal will oversee the final selections, based on the auditions. The final selections will be made during May 2022.
Costs for participants: The audition and workshop is free for chosen applicants.
