Description:BOXCAR THEATRE is seeking exceptional actors, cabaret performers, specialty & circus acts with interest and experience in immersive, interactive, and audience-responsive theatre for its 2023-2024 season, including its remount production of The Speakeasy.Private events and public shows are held in Boxcar’s 1920s-themed performance space, The Palace Theater, located in North Beach. To get a sense of our venue, please take a look at our virtual tour! Performance pay starts at $25 per hour and ranges based on experience, skill, and role. We are casting in the following general categories: Immersive/Ambient Actors – These roles involve a mix of scripted and improvised content; performers should be comfortable working in immersive settings with a high level of audience engagement and interaction. Cabaret Performers (Singers, Emcees/Hosts, Sketch Comedy/Clown, Chorus Dancers) – These actors perform period routines and ambient material on our Cabaret stage or in an immersive environment. Emcees must be comfortable interacting directly with audience members; other roles should be comfortable performing in close proximity to audience members. Circus/Specialty Acts (jugglers, contortionists, acrobats, aerialists, magicians, tarot readers, etc.) – These roles involve stage or ambient performances depending on specific skills, preferences, and show needs. Must be comfortable working with music from the 1920s and 1930s in close physical proximity to audience members. Tarot readers and ambient magicians must be comfortable working directly with audience members in small groups. Boxcar Theatre celebrates inclusion and is committed to workplace diversity. In-person callbacks will be held by appointment in San Francisco during October and the first two weeks of November of 2023. Acting self-tapes: Please submit two contrasting 1–2 minute monologues, ideally one comedic and one dramatic. Singers: Please submit 32 bars of a Jazz Standard or Great American Songbook–style piece. Dancers & Specialty Acts: Please submit a 1–3-minute demo reel showcasing your movement/specialty skills. We appreciate you sharing your time and talents.
