Seeking 2 artists/performersexpiredChoreographer Patrick Ziza |
Description:Choreographer Patrick Ziza is seeking 2 artists/performers from the global majority with theatre and dance experience for the Research and Development of his new work “Domesteeque.”Where: Newcastle upon Tyne, UK When: 15th Aug -26th Aug 2022 Deadline for applications: 8th August 2022 at 12:00 NOON The Project in a nutshell: The cult of Dandyism is colourful and flamboyant, but also rich in political history from the colonial legacy to the 1960s phenomenon that empowered the Free Democratic Republic of Congo, and the influence that the Dandy style has had and continues to have on generations in the 21st Century. The original Congo Dandies took the plantation owners’ cast-off clothes (the English & French Dandies), wore them with more style and used them as a protest against their oppression. The Paris-based Dandies of the 1960’s used their flamboyance to fight for a Free Democratic Republic of Congo. More recently the 21st Century Girl Dandies have taken a stance on LGBTQ rights in Africa using their style to raise the profile of their fight against the stereotypical image of the African woman. Through history, Dandyism has been synonymous with representation, community, and being seen and heard. Patrick Ziza’s “Dandyism” creates work that, through the Dandy style, challenges perceptions of people of colour in UK society as well as, more generally, explores identity by encouraging people to express their inner Dandy as a statement of “we are here.” Domesteeque takes the concept of Dandyism further, creating a space for public forum and community gatherings. Around the world, important decisions that need to be taken to address issues such as climate change for example, are made by “monochromed businessmen in monochromed suits” with all the usual formalities of political and vested interests. Consequently, communities come together to protest, apply pressure, collaborate, inspire and celebrate their shared concerns for humanity. Domesteeque presents the public forum as run by the Dandies: with humour, flamboyance, colour, noise, theatricalities, the beauty of body language; entertaining yet thought-provoking. Domesteeque also invites the audience to participate in the debate; to dance, sing, and to celebrate the oneness of “community.” We are looking for: 1. Applicants with dance/movement and acting skills, comfortable with singing and the use of spoken words. 2. Comfortable performing in outdoor settings 3. Experienced in delivering community dance/theatre workshops Research and Development Period: 15th – 19th August 2022: 10:00-17:00 (£550) 22nd – 26th August 2022: 10:00-17:00 (£550) How to Apply: • CV – Written format max 2 pages or video footage max 3 mins stating your relevant training and experiences. • A video link (-max 5mins-) that includes evidence of previous/current professional works.
