Description:
Responsible for executing the Scenic Designer's artistic vision that has been portrayed in renderings and necessary elevations and serves as Scenic Designer for Popcorn Theatre shows.
● Takes stock of paint and paint-related inventory and uses inventory on hand when possible.
● Responsible for purchasing paints, fabrics, painting supplies, etc within the allotted budget.
● Coordinates painting schedule with the Technical Director and Master Carpenter, providing information on any set pieces that may need to be constructed first because of complexity, etc.
● Paints all set pieces and maintains any paint repairs, modifications or maintenance during the run of the show.
● Maintains clean workspace and ensures the theatre and paint shop are in good order at the end of the season.
● Assists with load-ins and strikes.
● Serves as Scenic Designer (as well as Painter) for Popcorn Theatre productions:
○ Keeps Popcorn Theatre designs relatively simple, keeping in mind placement of Mainstage designs and changeover time. Uses stock inventory set pieces when creating the design to reduce costs and building time.
○ Abides by all schedules and deadlines, providing the necessary technical drawings, renderings, elevations, and/or models that will illustrate to the Director as well as the Technical Director and Master Carpenter the scenic concept of the show.
○ Works directly with the Technical Director and Master Carpenter on the implementation of the set building process.
○ Responsible for all furniture choices, set dressing choices and other elements that may be necessary to the scenic design in coordination with the Director and conveys those choices to Props Dept.
○ Presents any practical electrical needs on the stage to the Technical Director and Lighting Designer when submitting the scenery design.
○ Provides any/all requirements for trim heights and all other drawings to the Lighting Designer and stage management.
● Responsible for working within the allotted budget.
