SOCIAL CIRCUS DIRECTOR, 15-20 hours/week

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Social Circus Director reports to SANCA’s Executive Director, and supervises a staff of 5-8 part time coaches and coordinators. The Social Circus Director is responsible for creating, implementing and maintaining all programs related to Social Circus, including Every Body’s Circus (EBC), Transformational Women’s Circus (TWC), and Community Outreach. The Director trains and supervises social circus staff, is a resource to all SANCA departments and, depending on training, may provide direct services to students.

Essential Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Leads and manages SANCA’s Social Circus programs and budgets
Supervise Social Circus staff
Under the guidance of SANCA Executive Director and in cooperation with the Development Director, designs and assures funding for programs that meet the needs of underserved populations in a physically and emotionally safe manner
May provide direct coaching for Social Circus program offerings
Provides oversight and support to Social Circus coaches, staff, and all SANCA staff regarding social, emotional or behavioral issues with students
Coordinates staff training regarding trauma, therapeutic issues, and the
objectives of Social Circus
Develops programs that empower participants to express themselves; advance their personal and social growth; develop self-esteem and confidence; improve communication skills; set personal goals and define strategies to reach them; have fun and be creative; and become active players in their own lives.
Assesses potential students for program eligibility; assigns individual students to coaches; serves as a resource for parents; maintains accurate records of clients, monitors and evaluates clients’ progress, and modifies teaching plans accordingly; depending on training, provides one-on-one therapeutic services to students who need individualized care and/or students who cannot join group classes; supports diversity within the organization and among students; and promotes the mission of making circus accessible to all.
Cultivates, creates, and manages Outreach programs; builds community
connections and fosters community engagement.
Develops and administers the Social Circus budget; in partnership with the Development Director, identifies and secures funding through grants,
partnerships, and contract services; builds classes and programs that assure financial sustainability for programs.
Ensures ongoing program evaluation and excellence, to confirm that classes, programs and services meet the needs of participants, staff and stakeholders.
Creates promotional content for the SANCA Marketing Director, creating a strong brand and visibility for Social Circus in the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The Social Circus Director should have a health background, ideally licensed in a mental health field. A minimum of five years of experience in social work, counseling, education, performing arts or a related field is desired. Candidates must be able to work successfully in collaboration with diverse groups of people; be capable of listening effectively; and have genuine empathy with, and commitment to, participants and staff.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Helpful Knowledge:
The principles of Social Circus; case management; clinical mental health
assessment and treatment; mental health first aid; de-escalation, mediation and conflict resolution.
Acrobatics and circus arts education and performance.
Budget management including preparation, analysis, decision-making,
administration, and reporting.
Non-profit development strategies including grants, corporate and foundation support, fundraising, donor relations, special events, and fee-based program revenues.

Working in cooperation with managers and staff across departmental lines and throughout the organization.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, and bending in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping and repetitive hand movement using a computer keyboard. The position requires near and far vision in reading correspondence, using a computer, and in the safe supervision of staff and students. The ability to communicate is required when providing phone and personal service. The ability to lift, drag and push equipment weighing up to 100 pounds, to set up aerial rigging, to lift students, to train and perform physical skills related to circus, and to provide spotting for students performing or training circus skills is required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.
