YOUR MISSION Reporting to the Technical Director and working in tandem / collaboration with the Head Rigger and Head of Automation, the Rigging and Automation Technician will be a highly motivated individual who is inspired and keen to contribute to and improve the show quality & technical operations of the show. Responsabilities: · Work in close collaboration with both rigging and automation departments; · Uphold all Cirque du Soleil (CDS) health & safety and rescue protocols to the highest possible standard; · Help the rigging and automation departments to maintain the integrity of artistic concepts and show quality. · During Set up and Tear down, participate in all activities relating to rigging equipment, automation systems and equipment and lead local personnel when required; · Assist with the setup and tear-down of all other technical installations; · Work with both rigging and automation departments to resolve any technical issues; · Provide training as required to achieve development goals and timelines; · Attend departmental meetings; · Carry out all other tasks requested by the Head of Automation or Head Rigger. Task related to Rigging: · Monitor the use and maintenance of rigging equipment employed by artists during performances, rehearsals and training periods; · Act as a rigging equipment operator during performances and rehearsals; · Ensure the safety and security of rigging equipment at all times; · Participate in the rigging equipment safety inspection program; · Ensure that technical staff (Cirque and temporary employees) adhere to standards and regulations pertaining to the safety of rigging equipment and comply with safe working methods; · Inspect and maintain all rigging equipment and keep records of inspections and modifications; · Update the rigging archives, inventory, technical documentation and customs documentation; · Participate in any other task related to rigging on the show. Tasks related to Automation: · Operate automation systems and equipment during training and performance; · Maintain and update show records, procedures, and maintenance logs; · Ensure the safety and security of automation equipment through all phases of tour operations, including Tear down, Set up, trainings and performances; · Perform and document inspections, maintenance, and system updates both as regularly scheduled and exceptionally required, as mandated; · Assist with maintaining all automation documentation including; archives, inventory, technical documentation, procedures, and customs documentation; · Train and supervise backup operators for shift rotations and replacement duty (including Cirque staff & temporary employees); · Implement integration and development plans for all automation staff and operators, ensuring they adhere to standards and regulations pertaining to: o automation equipment safety, and comply with safe working methods; YOUR UNIQUE EXPERTISE - College diploma (or equivalent) in live entertainment, theatre production or industrial automation (or equivalent work experience); · Five years' relevant experience as a rigger and/or automation operator, including experience with aerial/human rigging; · Minimum three years' experience in automation systems; · Technical knowledge of rigging equipment; · Ability to handle contingencies and work well under pressure; · Technical knowledge of automation systems, including hardware (PLC, AC motor control, slave systems, control loops, electrical systems) and software (control platforms, multi-axis motion programming, video monitoring); · Navigator knowledge and experience is an asset; · Knowledge of basic structural loads and forces; · General knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and electronic systems; · Good general understanding of all technical aspects of a show; · Knowledge of Microsoft applications for Windows; advanced knowledge of Windows operating system is an asset; · Flexible, autonomous and team-spirited; · Good communication skills; · Ability to work high above the ground; · Knowledge of Microsoft software for Windows and AutoCAD navigation; · Fluency in spoken and written English is essential; any additional language (spoken and/or written) is an asset; · Available to travel 100% of the time and to work in foreign countries.
