Residency for live performance (theater, dance, circus, puppetry, live music, etc.)expired

Rossignolet [Troglo] Theater

France France, Loches
Posted on: May 04, 2025

Description:

The Rossignolet [Troglo] Theater, based in Loches, a city of "Art and History," has been committed to sharing art and culture with as many people as possible since 2013. This former troglodyte dwelling, in the heart of the rock, has been renovated into a modular theater to offer the public an eclectic and high-quality program.

The theater hosts cultural events (shows, concerts), artist residencies, conferences, and exhibitions throughout the year.

In this stone cocoon, an extraordinary place, the goal is to create human-scale atmospheres between a work and an audience. The charm of this troglodyte place contributes to the spectator's escape.

The Rossignolet Theater is today a central cultural center of Southern Touraine.

CALL FOR PROJECTS – Residency at the Théâtre du Rossignolet

The residency aims to:

• Provide a workspace for professional companies and structures or those in the process of becoming professional in the field of live performance (theater, dance, circus, puppetry, live music, etc.).
• Encourage creations linked to the territory and its specificities.
• Offer artistic and technical support.

Conditions of reception:

• Duration: Between 5 and 10 days, in one or two sessions.
• Financial support: A grant of 1500 euros per residency paid at the end of the residency.
• Expenses to be paid by the artists: Travel and meals.
• Accommodation: Possibility of hosting in a local home.
• Provision: Access to workspaces and the technical platform.
• End of residency: Mandatory, with the possibility of future programming subject to validation by the commission.

Projects must fall within one or more of the following themes:

1. Memory(s) and Heritage(s): Projects must draw inspiration from local history, reawaken forgotten stories, and revive popular traditions and key figures from the region. Each creation must offer a contemporary reading of the past, bringing it into resonance with the present.

2. Landscape and Nature: A reflection on the imprint of time and the transformations of the landscape will be expected. Artists may explore the relationship between humans and their environment, emphasizing the notion of passage: between city and countryside, underground and above ground, preserved nature and inhabited spaces. The troglodyte architecture of the territory may be a source of inspiration to question these transitions and interactions.

3. Citizen Participation: Proposals must encourage the involvement of residents, the collection of testimonies, and intergenerational dialogue. Particular attention will be paid to projects that promote local identities and foster exchanges within the community.

4. Innovation and rurality: A contemporary approach to live performance in rural areas will be favored. Projects may experiment with new performance formats, atypical scenographic devices or digital interactions with the public and the architecture of the venues (mapping, octophony, immersive devices).

Applications will be evaluated according to:

• The project's suitability with the axes of the call for projects.
• The artistic quality and relevance of the subject.
• The technical and logistical feasibility within the framework of the residency.
• A team limited to 4 people.
• The ability to be autonomous on site (B license preferred).
• Mediation actions may be considered depending on the projects.

Candidate structures must send a file including:

• A presentation of the project (intentions, team, production schedule, partners, technical needs).
• A note of intent explaining the link with the territory.
• An artistic file and/or extracts from previous works (videos, audios, etc.).
• A biography of the artists involved.
• A draft or a finalized technical sheet of the project.
• Complete contact details (telephone, email, website).
Files should be sent to [email protected] with the subject "Rossignolet Residence Application".

Selection process:

• Pre-selection based on the file by the residency committee.
• Second selection via a videoconference interview.
• Response to candidates within one month after the submission deadline.

Calendar:

• Launch of the call for projects: End of March.
• Closing date for applications: June 30 at midnight.
• Announcement of results: July 31 at the latest.
• Residency period: Between September and November 2025.

An agreement will be signed between the Théâtre du Rossignolet and the producing structure. This structure will be responsible for artistic and administrative management (fees, salaries, social and tax charges). The theater will be responsible for the communication of the residency and the exit from the residency.

The association reserves the right not to select a project if none fully meets the criteria defined according to its assessment.

The Théâtre du Rossignolet looks forward to discovering your proposals and welcoming new creations!
