YOUR MISSION
Reporting to the Production Manager and working under the supervision of the Head of Carpentry, you will be required to:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Execute show tracks for placing or operating props and related equipment during performances, training and maintenance;
• Fix problems related to props;
• Supervise and help carry out special projects;
• Ensure that all aspects of prop-related operations function smoothly during rehearsals and performances;
• Take part in inspecting, maintaining, altering and repairing props and equipment;
• Keep prop archives, stock lists, technical documentation and customs documents up to date;
• Ensure props are correctly installed and consistent with the show’s concept;
• In cooperation with the Head of Carpentry, seek out, order or purchase new or replacement equipment as per the company’s procurement policy;
• Participate in load-in and load-out including loading/unloading of trucks;
• In cooperation with the Production Manager, assist with all backloading duties;
• Apply safety standards and regulations for props, and practice safe work methods;
• Respect and support procedures and requirements set by Cirque du Soleil with regard to managing equipment and stock;
• Use the tools and procedures provided to manage inventory and equipment data;
• Follow requirements defined by the customs and logistics departments for transporting equipment with touring shows;
• Supervise the local team assigned to you during load-in and load-out;
• Organize the storage of carts and empty cases backstage;
• Carry out all other related tasks assigned by the Production Manager or the Head of Carpentry.
YOUR UNIQUE EXPERTISE
• College diploma (or equivalent) in live entertainment or theatre production (or equivalent work experience);
• A minimum of three years' experience as a professional touring props technician;
• Good general understanding of all technical aspects of a show is an asset;
• Woodworking, fiberglass, metalworking, rigging, welding, mechanical, pneumatic and electrical skills an asset;
• Personnel management experience;
• Flexibility, autonomy, communication & team player;
• Ability to handle contingencies and work well under pressure;
• Computer knowledge an asset;
• Fluency in spoken and written English is essential;
• Available to tour full time and to work in foreign countries.
