About Dance Theater A'nó:wara

A'nó:wara Dance Theater is directed by Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) choreographer Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo. Originally from Kahnawá:ke and now living in Montreal, Barbara has been a dancer and choreographer for over 25 years. She specializes in traditional Aboriginal dance and contemporary styles, and her goal is to inspire those around her, encourage cultural pride, uplift the spirit, and foster education and communication.

His latest work, Sky Dancers , is a multidisciplinary dance performance that explores the impact of the 1907 Quebec Bridge collapse disaster, in which 33 workers from the Mohawk community of Kahnawá:ke tragically lost their lives. . By combining dance, video projections, theatre, sophisticated scenography, as well as a mix of traditional and contemporary music, Sky Dancers puts a human face to a story that represents many of the struggles the community has had to overcome. This work continues to be presented throughout Quebec and Ontario, and recently received the " Dora Mavor Moore Outstanding Touring Production " award in the fall of 2022.
