Program Director
Our ideal candidate for Program Director is an experienced administrator, project manager, effective leader, communicator and multi-tasker who also has experience in and/or is willing to embrace an atypical work environment. The Program Director must be knowledgeable or interested in learning about circus arts curriculum, terminology and unique requirements for each act.
Circus Juventas is a tax-exempt non-profit performing arts circus school for youth, dedicated to inspiring artistry and self-confidence through a multi-cultural circus arts experience. Offices, classes and performances are housed in our permanent Big Top. Founded in 1994, programs have expanded greatly and we offer 350 unique classes each year. Roles and Responsibilities
Life at Circus Juventas is about striving for new levels of excellence in artistry, athleticism, mental acuity and creativity. The largest circus school in North America is seeking candidates who have a broad intellectual perspective, strong leadership skills, and a high degree of personal integrity and professionalism to a complex and unique school. Circus Juventas enrolls 1,000 students in our year-round out-of-school program, and 400 students in six weeks of summer day camps. The Program Director is responsible for taking a practical overview of the implementation and administration of all aspects of the program and must have:
Strong project management skills –
o Project Management Certification preferred but not necessary.
o Must have a formal, demonstrable methodology for project management and have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with small, dedicated, often overlapping teams.
Experience managing complex scheduling requirements – Responsible for overseeing and working collaboratively with other departments on projects including, but not limited to:
o Quarterly class registration
o Creation of session schedules (learning the requirements of assigning training space, coaching staff, and the particulars of student placement within the system)
o Volunteers
o Work-study programs and scholarship programs
o Show and event planning
o Payment processes (online and in person)
o Ticket sale operations (Ticketworks)
Strong people management skills –
o Management of the Administration Department and liaising with all other departments.
o Ability to function as a communication conduit from upper management to multiple teams.
o Manage staff scheduling, performance reviews, recruitment, and new employee on-boarding.
Strong written and verbal communication –
o The Program Director will be the primary contact for communication with upper management, coaches, students, and student families.
o Must have excellent communication skills via email, phone, and in person and ability to oversee staff communication internally and externally.
o Ability to handle all incoming queries from families and potential students and manage conflict as necessary.
Ability to work independently, proactively, creatively and collaboratively with executives, artists, coaches, students and parents.
Flexible schedule –
o Schedule will require additional hours/flexible hours during peak activity times (registration, spring and summer performances, events, etc.)
o Some evening and weekend hours will be expected (first week of session, events, performances, etc.)
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree
• 5 years administrative, project management and people management experience
• Project Management Certification preferred but not necessary.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience with Black Baud (Education Edge, Net Community, Raiser’s Edge)
• Experience with Active Network, Amilia, or other online registration software systems
• Experience with MS Access and Excel
• Excellent communication skills via phone, email, and in person.
• Must have excellent time management skills, be highly organized, self-motivated, and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Must be comfortable leading, managing, and training diverse teams of administrators, administrative assistants, coaches, and artists.
Employment Information:
• This is a full-time exempt position. Primary hours will be standard office hours Monday through Friday; evening and weekend hours as needed during peak activity times and for meetings, performances and events, especially during public shows (two weeks in April, three weeks in July/August).
• Salary range is $70,000 to $80,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
