Reporting functionally to the Director or Senior Director of Show Quality and operationally to the show’s Senior Tour Director, the Artistic Director at Cirque du Soleil personifies the artistic essence of our touring shows, ensuring their continuous quality, integrity of artistic concept and high-level performance.
Come join our Touring Shows Division (TSD) – international Big Top, Arena and Theatre touring shows. You must be available and authorized to work internationally full time (365 days).
Main tasks:
· Manage the daily general, artistic and acrobatic operations of the performers and the artistic team (Coaches, Performance Medicine, General Stage Manager and their staff);
· Ensure that the show meets and maintains the high-quality standards in terms of artistic and acrobatic performance as well as staging, choreography, cues, musical score, costumes, make-up, lighting and sound design;
· At the request of the Director of Show Quality assigned to the show, implement and follow up on the artistic, acrobatic and technical adjustments and modifications to various components of the show;
· Make recommendations to the Director of Show Quality of your show for any artistic and acrobatic changes or adjustments needed for the maintenance of the show and its performers;
· Organize the integration of new performers and new acts into the show, as well as performers returning to duty after medical rehabilitation;
· Communicate with all performers to ensure they are up to date on the specifics of their role and cues, and provide artistic notes to ensure continuous high-quality artistic performances;
· In the close setting of our touring shows, maintain a good working environment with peers and performers while ensuring a proper professional relationship;
· In collaboration with the artistic team, oversee the trainings, rehearsals and evaluations of all performers, in addition to the artistic budget for the department;
What we look for in candidates:
· College diploma in drama, dance, acrobatics, or a related artistic or production field OR relevant work experience;
· A minimum of ten years’ experience in a similar role, in live show entertainment for large-scale productions with automation & aerial cues;
· Past on-stage experience as a performer, preferred;
· Experience in dance or choreography, a strong asset;
· Demonstrated leadership experience of performers and artistic disciplines, including related administrative processes;
· Excellent observational and communication skills (verbal and written);
· Multicultural experience, an asset;
· Knowledge of Microsoft applications in a Windows environment;
· Fluency in spoken and written English is essential; any additional language spoken and/or written is an asset;
· Available to tour full time and to work in foreign countries.
