This position is ONLY for organized individuals with a passion for capturing the perfect aesthetically-framed shot, and providing effortless guest services. You must be tech savvy, love learning new technology and custom software, and be able to memorize information quickly.
This position is shared by two people per show and split into two departments. During each day, you will spend 50% of your time taking photos of the dances, and 50% of your time monitoring the photos/videos of each dance. While in the front of house, you will also be creating memories with the guests and assisting with their questions. Each week you will also be assigned Photo or Media Center to load in/load out.
We photograph each entry as it performs from the photographer station in the center of the pit. Your camera will be tethered to a computer as your photos immediately send to the Media Center in the lobby. From there, Media Center chooses which photos to keep and which to delete, checks the quality of the videos sent from Console, and transfers both via a wireless network to our viewing iPad kiosks in the lobby. This allows our dancers to walk off stage, head out to the lobby, and instantly view the photos YOU just shot of them. The parents and kids love this feature!
Photographer (50% of the weekend): This role is most aligned with sports photography: responsible for capturing the physical peaks and emotional moments throughout each and every performance. As our photographers, you will shoot 30-80 pictures of each dance with up to 600 dances per weekend… confidence in artistic consistency and longevity are important, along with mental and physical stamina! You must be able to prove that you will be just as strong during entry #450 as you were with #1. Since you will only shoot 50% of the entries, you must be in sync with your fellow photographer to ensure consistently strong photos across the board.
Since the photos are sent immediately to the lobby to be viewed, retouching is not an option! It is remarkably important to set yourself up for success with appropriate camera settings and quality tests prior to the event beginning! A strong eye for composition and the skill of accurate anticipation to perfectly time shots are a MUST!
Media Center (50% of the weekend): This role is located right in the lobby of the theatre, so you are usually the first face the guests see when they walk into the building, and the last face they see on their way out! Guests will have many questions: not only on our videos and photos found at our Media Center, but also regarding rules, run of show, and fees. You must be knowledgeable on all StarQuest rules and culture in order to succeed in this position. You will be well trained on our custom system and responsible for helping the guests, as well as previewing all photos and videos. A great staff member keeps the Media Center area organized and pristine, chooses the best photos, ensures quality on the videos, and has positive interactions with the guests!
You will have a Lobby Lead and Merchandise Associate with you in the lobby. Lead will register all studios, oversee quality control, and will also be there to give you breaks throughout the weekend as well as motive you to give the “WOW” guest relations.
Weekend Overview: During load in, you will unload the truck as a team with all 12 staff members. After that you with either load in Photo or Media Center, depending on your assignment that weekend. Your load in will include: setting up video/photo preview stations, running power cables, mounting TVs onto their stands, setting up computers, iPads, iPods, and more. You will also run a large multi cable from the stage in the theatre to the lobby. You will carry it, tape it down, carpet it, and troubleshoot the cables if necessary. You will also set up the photo equipment, test the camera, and white balance.
This load in requires immense organization and attention to detail. You must be able to coil large cables and lift 50 pounds. You will coil and uncoil 10-20 cables per weekend. Every Road Warrior loads out their equipment and loads the truck together.
Key traits include: The ability to remain focused for long periods of time, knowledge of photography equipment and troubleshooting, great organizational skills, quick thinking, a keen aesthetic eye, a passion for delivering a top-notch quality product, impeccable people skills, and the strong skills/ability to learn new software quickly. Application must include photo portfolio/website!
