Closing date: Friday 10 January 2025 Location: London Job Description The Brixton Chamber Orchestra is seeking an Orchestra Manager to join our core team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the fixing and managing of musicians, and in ensuring the smooth running of performance operations. Much of this work can be remote, but presence is required for all performances and a minimum of one day on the office, mainly in Brixton but sometimes further afield. Job Requirements Essential: Proven experience in orchestra management, arts administration, or similar roles Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a team Knowledge of orchestral repertoire and understanding of the needs of musicians Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by the orchestra's schedule Desirable: Formal training or background in music (e.g. degree in music, stint in youth or professional orchestra, or equivalent) Experience working in a non-profit or charitable organisation Knowledge of H&S regulations related to events and performances Budget management experience Knowledge in administrative software (e.g. MS Office Suite, Scheduling and Project Management tools) Ability to think creatively and solve problems under pressure Passion for music and commitment to the mission of the charity Job Responsibilities The postholder will be required to support with the following: Operations: Coordinate schedules of rehearsals, performances etc Liaise with conductor, musicians, and technical staff for schedules Manage venue bookings and logistics Work closely with the core team to support all BCO projects Events Coordination: Site visits at various event venues to confirm arrangements Oversee the setup and breakdown for rehearsals and performances. Coordinate with volunteers and production teams to ensure smooth events, managing unexpected issues on the day. Administration: Maintain accurate records for musicians Assist with content of concert programmes and promotional materials. Monitor budgets for events and projects Musicians: Book musicians for rehearsals & performances Ensure musicians have rehearsal materials etc Organise transportation or accommodation arrangements if applicable Outreach and Stakeholder Engagement: Support outreach initiatives and ad hoc tasks to support the core team.
