Description:The project will dive deep into the south Indian vocal rhythmic tradition Konnakkol to be interpreted through contemporary dance.Where: Salzburg, Austria When: February to April 2025 Deadline for applications: 20.10.2024 Project details: The production will be researched and choreographed by Salzburg-based choreographer of Indian origin Nayana Keshava Bhat. The project will dive deep into the south Indian vocal rhythmic tradition Konnakkol to be interpreted through contemporary dance. The creation period will be in February, March, and the performance will take place in April (between 11.04. & 17.04.2025). The entire production process will take place in Salzburg, and requires the performer to be available in person. The artist needs to have a valid European work permit. This is a paid opportunity according the Fairpay Guidelines in Austria. Required qualifications: For this solo performance, we are looking for a contemporary dancer with – professional experience – strong skills in performance – an ability to work in a choreographic setting as well as with improvisation – an impeccable sense of rhythm to be able to work with complex rhythmic structures – a strong commitment to work in an intercultural setting; some knowledge and awareness of non-European cultures and dance traditions is a plus. – curiosity to investigate their skill and knowledge of contemporary dance in relation to the proposed musical context. – open-mindedness and good communication skills are valued and appreciated.
