Gifford's Circus, "the nation's most glamorous troupe" (Sunday Telegraph) are seeking guitarists for the 2022 season.

We are a travelling circus (http://www.giffordscircus.com/), performing around the village greens and palace parks of the Cotswolds to over 100,000 people a year. We go from Stroud to London and back again. The show, directed by the "one man laugh factory" (Guardian) Cal McCrystal, combines circus and theatre with a strong musical element. We will be devising a score based on the traditional music of Mexico: huasteco, banda, jarocho, mariachi, bolero, cumbia..

A knowledge of and love for traditional Mexican repertoire would a great plus. As would Spanish-language singing ability. Pre-formed bands will also be considered. We are looking for players with several years professional playing experience behind them. You will be an integral part of the whole show; an energetic and enthusiastic approach to performance is a must.

The auditions will be in London on 19th/20th December. Please bring 2-3 contrasting pieces, and be prepared to improvise or sight-read. A piano accompanist, drum kit and facility for backing tracks will be provided.

The season will be from 21st March 3rd October, including 3 weeks rehearsals, as well as a development week in February at full pay. We perform an average of 11 shows per week, with one day off per week.

You will be performing in an international troupe of jugglers, contortionists, acrobats, horses, clowns and chickens in a tent you have helped put up yourself. Accommodation provided in the form of a vintage circus wagon. All meals are provided during rehearsals. There will be opportunities for further work with us both in future seasons and in the off-period in between.

FEE: 650pw gross
