Summary The American Youth Circus Organization / American Circus Educators Association (AYCO/ACE) is a national nonprofit with the mission to promote the participation of youth in circus arts and support circus educators. We are a membership-based organization serving U.S. circus students, educators, and organizations. AYCO/ACE is seeking an Executive Director, in a role that is expanding to full-time. Job Overview The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for maintaining the organization’s vision and ensuring that day-to-day tasks are executed appropriately in pursuit of its mission. The ED works closely with the board of directors and engages with all committees of the board, as well as interfacing with members and the public, including managing donor and partnership relationships and annual fundraising campaigns. The ED manages part-time staff including the program manager and communications and membership manager, event staff, and consultants. The ED oversees the production of the organization’s events, including large annual national events, regional events, and virtual programming. The ED is responsible for delegating or executing all financial and managerial tasks that keep the organization running and compliant. Responsibilities and Duties Development and Finance Manages donor and partnership relationships, manages annual fundraising campaigns with support from the Development Committee of the Board. Delegates or executes all financial managerial tasks that keep the organization running and compliant such as bookkeeping, 990 tax filing, payroll, and financial reporting. Produces the annual budget for board approval, with support from the Treasurer and Finance Committee. Management Supervises part-time staff in management of ACE Safety Program, Social Circus Network, youth leadership programs and individual membership benefits. Manages part-time staff members and contractors (including program manager, operations director, and various event planning team members), engages with all committees of the board of directors, and interfaces with members and the public Manages organizational membership benefits, including monthly Zoom networking meetings and email list. Works directly with committees of the board (standing and advisory) to support delivery of committee based actions. Executes program planning and delivery, including the ACE Discussion Series, Regional AYCO Festivals, and online trainings/workshops, in collaboration with committees. Oversees production of the annual national festival/conferences, including all budgeting, event staffing, and event management. Communications Represents the organization as a whole, balancing big picture strategy with micro tasks and day to day planning. Works with the board of directors on strategic planning and execution of the organizational mission. Directs and manages all communication during times of need or crisis within the circus community. Maintains the institutional voice and guides staff in doing the same, including ensuring that monthly newsletters, social media, and other outward communication are consistent in voice and delivery Communicates with membership, press, and other constituents to answer questions and queries about circus education pathways and youth circus opportunities. Engages with national and international peer networks and organizations. Required Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience creating budgets and cash flow reports; familiarity with QuickBooks. 5 years’ experience with management and fundraising. Management and leadership skills for supervising staff, interfacing with board members and community volunteers, and serving members. Fundraising and development expertise or strong interest in developing this expertise, including managing individual donors, grant writing, relationships with foundations, and capacity to develop additional funding relationships. Competency in Google Drive and Google Workspace applications (formerly known as G-Suite), and aptitude to learn other online technologies and content management systems. Compensation and Benefits Salary starting at $52,000 with scheduled increases aligning with fundraising. Flexible benefits included.
