Description:
About the organization
Venardos Circus is a small, traveling, animal-free circus that brings the Big Top circus tradition to cities across the United States. Our 40-week schedule brings us to 18-20 cities per year where our aerialists, gymnasts, foot jugglers, clown, and jugglers entertain young and old while delivering the important message of exploring and living one's own circus dreams.
Duties
Are you an early-years educator who is passionate about teaching, but perhaps less keen on the bureaucracy of a traditional school setting?
Would you enjoy the opportunity to work with a small group of highly-motivated kids, ranging in age from pre-school to second grade?
Have you ever considered running away to join the circus?
If you answered yes to all three then we have a great opportunity for you.
Venardos Circus is a small, traveling, animal-free circus whose dedicated performers and crew travel across the United States, typically visiting 18 cities in our 40-42 week annual schedule. Several of our perfomers have young children who are watched over by the group and make use of an online virtual school offering.
The Circus is looking for a motivated educator, keen to travel, to help provide more structure for these young children by offering pre-school activities and guidance for their online learning. This will require a teacher who is passionate about each student’s learning and is keen to spend a great deal of personal attention on each child (currently six, but that number can and will change.) The candidate will need to be rigidly flexible as they educate in the midst of a traveling circus. One strong positive is that you will live amidst a group of highly focused parents who will hold you in high esteem as the community’s only teacher.
A great job for an RPCV looking to explore their next steps - see the United States while teaching.
Qualifications
The candidate should be a trained teacher, preferably with a focus on early years education. They will need to be someone who is excited by the prospect of teaching a small group in a one-room schoolhouse setting. Should they wish there is also scope for additional responsibilities (and extra pay of course) if they take an active part in other aspects of the circus. Anyone capable of and interested in driving while towing a trailer, working as a roustabout, or spending evening time as a candy butcher (yes, that is the name of the job) will have plenty of opportunities to do more.
A knowledge of Spanish would be helpful but is not necessary. We speak eight different languages on the lot but English is the dominant form of communication and most important for teaching the youngsters.
