Description
The HRCA is currently hiring for an Aqua instructor with mid-morning availability.

Responsible for planning and conducting effective and enjoyable fitness classes in a variety of formats to include, but not limited to, cardio conditioning, muscle conditioning, strength training, aqua fitness, indoor cycling, and other generalized group exercise classes. Sets appropriate, safe structure for classes; follows an established curriculum as established by certification requirements; ensures participants of a quality experience. Keeps class attendance and monitors class participants. Teaches classes as scheduled or follows substitution policy.



Supervision Received: Works under the supervision and direction of the Fitness Coordinator/Specialist.

Examples of Duties: The following examples of duties are intended to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive.

Designs and instructs fitness classes in conjunction with the intended format to be determined by the instructor and Fitness Coordinator/Specialist. Able to provide and demonstrate exercise modifications based on participant needs and abilities.
Sets appropriate, safe structure for intended class. Follows curriculum as established by certification requirements. Ensures participants of a quality experience while implementing HRCA policies and procedures.
Ensures the safety of participants by implementing and monitoring procedures to meet safety guidelines/expectations. Completes incident reports as required.
Informs the Fitness Coordinator/Specialist of all incidents, complaints, and unfavorable situations immediately.
Takes responsibility for the safe and effective use of program equipment. Reports any equipment concerns and identifies supply needs. Sets up and takes down equipment as needed.
Attends and participates in scheduled staff meetings.
Understands the substitution policy and procedure of finding subs for scheduled classes when unable to teach. Understands that failure to find a sub will be reflected on performance review and may constitute removal from fitness schedule.
Follows the customer service model that enhances positive communication and support for all customers, internal and external. Supports the HRCA mission and values.
Presents a positive approach in working with other HRCA staff members. Provides information to clarify the intent and structure of fitness classes. Resolves problems and concerns as able. Works positively to share workspaces and equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned and required.


Physical and Environmental Standards: Most work is performed indoors in a busy setting where noise and interruptions prevail. Must be able to regularly sit, walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull. Manual dexterity is needed to type and write. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication is needed. Vision requirements include near and far acuity. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 40 pounds unassisted and 60 pounds with assistance.

Qualifications
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Knowledge of fitness, health and wellness principles and how to apply them in teaching fitness classes. Must be aware of physical modifications for individuals of all ages/abilities. Must be able to plan, develop and implement a class curriculum as established by certification. Must be dependable, reliable and exhibit exceptional leadership skills and qualities. Requires bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, stooping, kneeling, and climbing to perform tasks normally associated with this position. Must pass a background check and drug screening.



Education: High School diploma required. Must be documented as a certified Group Exercise Instructor through a nationally recognized organization such as: AAAI, ACSM, ACE, AFAA, AEA, AFPA, NASM, Fit Tour, Mad Dogg, NETA, Schwinn, Johnny Goldberg, or YMCA equivalent. Must possess and maintain current CPR/AED certification.

Experience: Six months experience in teaching fitness classes is preferred.

Salary range: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
