Job Description / Duties

Job Purpose
Alongside the Programme Leader - Production Arts and other colleagues develop and deliver under graduate training and assessment in Lighting to a world leading industry standard.

Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Programme Leader - Production Arts of the Academy, the Lighting Tutor shall execute the following tasks and responsibilities:
 Leadership and training of students in professional theatrical and live entertainment lighting practices and relevant technologies.
 Contributing to the Academy’s commitment to continuous raising of standards, introduction of new practices and technologies in the training of students for careers in the theatrical and live entertainment industry
 Maintaining the professional currency of the training in theatrical and live entertainment lighting through contact with the industry, for both staff development and to maintain the curriculum to current industry standards.

Training and Tuition:
 Developing and teaching a lighting syllabus for the Bachelor of Arts BA Production Arts Programme.
 Supervision and guidance of students fulfilling a lighting role on Academy productions and projects.
 Assessment of students fulfilling a lighting role on Academy productions and projects.
 Collaboration with the Production Manager in coordinating internal technicians with external lighting creatives and technicians to support the lighting needs of the Academy.

Productions:
 Close liaison with other departments, particularly those relating to production.
 Communicating with other departments the lighting needs, requirements and schedule as part of the Production Department’s activities.
 Other related technical duties that may arise as a member of the Production Arts Faculty Team.

Finance:
 To manage spending and reconciliation of any budget designated.
 To research and propose any capital expenditure to keep in line with current industry developments.

Health and Safety:
 To engage with relevant Health and Safety training regarding the teaching and delivery of lighting and its technology.
 To be familiar with and comply with current Health and Safety regulations relevant to the industry.
 To ensure that personnel and students adhere to safe working practices.

Key Interactions
The Lighting Tutor is part of the Teaching Faculty, directly responsible to the Programme Leader - Production Arts.

Qualifications / Required Skills
Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
 Relevant undergraduate qualification.
 A strong background of working as a lighting professional in the theatrical and/or live entertainment industry in a producing environment.
 Knowledge of current lighting consoles, networks, instruments and equipment.
 Conversant with current and developing theatre lighting technologies.
 Excellent IT skills, including GrandMA, Previs, Vectorworks or similar lighting industry software
 Flexible approach to working and developing the post.
 A collaborative, positive, determined and efficient individual.

Desirable:
 Experience of teaching and working at Higher Education (HE) level.
 Relevant postgraduate qualification.
 Budget Management

 This is a full-time post based at Sharjah Performing Arts Academy, University City, Sharjah, UAE.
 This job description is a guide to the nature of the work required of the Lighting Tutor. It is not wholly comprehensive or restrictive and may be reviewed with the post holder and line manager as required and in line with the growth of the Academy.

 Sharjah Performing Arts Academy offers a highly competitive salary, residency visa, full medical Insurance cover, living/schooling allowances, and annual flight to country of residence.
 Note: due to licensing requirements and safeguarding policies, any individual offered a position will be required to submit a background check/DBS/Police check.

Salary: Paid in U.A.E. AED. Exchange rate to CAD fluctuates $6000-6250 monthly without deductions. Check resident status for individual CRA responsibility. Remuneration parity, non-negotiable salary.
