Position Title: Stage Lighting Technician
Position Type: Contractor
Hours/Week: On-call for Fall 2025; additional hours in Spring 2026
Location: Mullen Performing Arts Center, Villanova, PA
Work Schedule: Standard shop hours, Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM, with a 2-hour minimum per work call. Some evening and weekend hours may be offered.
Job Description Summary:
The Villanova Department of Theatre + Studio Art seeks a Stage Lighting Technician to collaborate with the Technical Director, Lead Stage Lighting Technician, Production Manager, and Lighting Designers on the execution of lighting designs for Villanova Theatrical Productions. This role includes supervising student crews, assisting with lighting installation, and supporting the technical aspects of lighting production.
The Stage Lighting Technician is expected to attend all lighting focus days, technical rehearsals, previews, and strikes as needed.
Responsibilities:
Supervise and train graduate and undergraduate students in the proper hanging and focusing of lighting instruments.
Work with Lighting Designers to execute lighting designs for each production.
Collaborate with the Technical Director and Lead Stage Lighting Technician to schedule light hang and focus calls.
Assist with purchasing necessary lighting equipment and supplies.
Serve as programmer for Lighting Designers when requested.
Train and support light board operators during technical rehearsals.
Restore lighting rep plots post-production.
Provide additional lighting and electrics support as needed.
Coordinate with Villanova Facilities Electricians for any infrastructure-related electrical needs.
Note: This position will not access Villanova University infrastructure electrical systems or tie into any electrical panels independently.

Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre (BA or BFA) preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
Strong understanding of modern theatrical lighting technology
Experience mentoring students of varying skill levels
Proficiency in programming ETC lighting consoles: Geo, Ion (xe), Element
Familiarity with LED fixtures and intelligent moving lights
Preferred Skills:
Basic knowledge of theatrical lighting design
Experience with Lightwright software and Vectorworks (or other CAD software)
Familiarity with ETC Source 4 LED Series 2 Lustr, PARs, Elation Artiste Picassos
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions:
Ability to lift 25 lbs
Frequent standing during work calls
Some evening and weekend hours required
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, earplugs, and dust masks is encouraged and can be provided.
Wage Rate: $20–23/hour
