Description:About Us:Joel Fitzpatrick Studio is a New York–based creative practice working at the intersection of art, architecture, and technology. The studio creates immersive environments and lighting experiences for exhibitions, installations, performances, and brand activations — blending concept-driven design with technical precision. Position Overview: We’re seeking a highly creative and technically fluent Lighting Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate combines artistic sensibility with hands-on production experience, able to translate a conceptual lighting approach into detailed technical drawings and real-world implementation. Requirements:Responsibilities:Collaborate with the Creative Director and Technical Director to design lighting environments for exhibitions, performances, and experiential installations Develop detailed lighting plots, system drawings, and documentation in Vectorworks, Lightwright, and related programs Specify and source lighting fixtures, control systems, dimming, and power distribution Program and focus lighting systems for both temporary and permanent installations (knowledge of ETC, GrandMA, QLab, or DMX-based control preferred) Integrate lighting with projections, LED walls, and multimedia elements Conduct lighting tests, mock-ups, and visualization renderings Coordinate with fabricators, production vendors, and electrical contractors to ensure accurate implementation Maintain lighting equipment and manage fixture inventories for studio and project use Qualifications 3–5 years of experience in lighting design for theatre, events, installations, or experiential environments Proficiency in Vectorworks, Lightwright, and lighting control systems (ETC EOS, GrandMA, or similar) Strong understanding of DMX protocols, LED systems, and power distribution Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams (artists, engineers, producers, and clients) Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills Based in or able to work regularly on-site in New York City Preferred Extras Familiarity with projection mapping, media servers, and video integration Interest in architectural lighting and art-tech collaborations Ability to draft both 2D plans and 3D visualizations Prepare To Present:Please send your resume, portfolio, and examples of lighting design work to [email protected] with the subject line “Lighting Designer – [Your Name]”
