Description:SummaryThe Communication Studies and Theatre Department at Mercer University is seeking a Lecturer/Technical Director. This position is responsible for managing production needs and providing course instruction. Educational management and supervision of student workers with scenic construction, as well as mentorship of student creative research are essential components of this job. For Mercer Theatre Program productions, the Lecturer/Technical Director will be responsible for maintaining a safe and educational working environment during the entire production process. The primary responsibility is construction and realization of scenic designs. Building management and equipment maintenance of our 90 seat black box theatre which includes tracking and maintaining lighting, sound, projection, and tool equipment inventory is also included in this position. Other design responsibilities are negotiated show by show based on student research requirements, the demands of the show, and faculty interest. The Lecturer/Technical Director will be responsible for teaching one course a semester in Stagecraft, Scenic Design, Introduction to Theatre, or other area of expertise based on the needs of the department and college. Other additional opportunities to teach outside of the department may become available after the first year of employment. Requirements Required Qualifications: - Master’s degree or higher in theatre or a closely related discipline by the start of the appointment - Experience with designing, building, and finishing work for scenic designs - Experience with managing shop and design budgets - A demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and/or mentorship - Philosophy commensurate with Mercer University's mission and values - Must be able to lift 50lbs Preferred Qualifications: - College or high school teaching experience - Familiarity with instructional theatre - Familiarity with ETC and Soundcraft consoles - Experience with producing in black box theatre spaces - Experience with Microsoft suite, AutoCAD or Vectorworks, and Photoshop
