Description:
We are looking for a Lead Projections Technician to join our Projections team! Under the guidance of the Technical Director of the show, as well as the Department Manager, The Lead Projections Technician is responsible for assisting the Department Supervisor in leading the Projections team for responsibilities related to operating, installing and maintaining Projections equipment in a safe and consistent manner, while providing all other supporting services. The ideal candidate will have interpersonal skills to work effectively with all business contacts and should maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
The Lead Video Technician will:
- Lead and manage a team of employees within the Projections department;
- Assist the Show Department Supervisor and Production Services Department Manager in various HR-related functions such as, but not limited to, supervising, training, hiring and scheduling for the team;
- Support Show Assistant Head of Department and Head of Department in forecasting and budgeting for department;
- Oversee all departmental rehearsals, trainings and show calls with the guidance of the Show Department Supervisor;
- Support Show Department Supervisor and Department Manager with procurement and receiving of goods, as needed;
- Run Projections department cue tracks, operate and troubleshoot Projections equipment as directed for performances, artistic training and maintenance;
- Develop a thorough knowledge of Projections department equipment, specific to the production, to operate and maintain equipment safely;
- Set up and maintain an interactive projections system consisting of multiple computers, projectors, media servers, cameras, networks and other stage-related equipment;
- Manage and complete special projects, including the installation of the new projection show elements;
- Work with the Show Supervisor, technical management, artistic staff and stage management staff to support their needs during rehearsals, trainings and performances;
- Ensure all departmental designs, equipment, systems, functions, procedures, show tracks, maintenance and inspections logs, special projects, etc., are properly and adequately documented;
- Adhere to, and promote, all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
- Establish emergency procedures for show systems and situations with the Department Manager and Show Department Supervisor, technical management, stage management and the rest of the technical team and ensure that all Artists, Technicians and staff are familiar with, and trained on, all pertinent procedures and equipment;
- Assist other departments, as needed, to run performances and rehearsals;
- Perform all other job-related duties as requested.
We want to meet you if you have:
- College-level diploma (or equivalent) in Live Entertainment or Theatre Production (or relevant work experience);
- At least 3 years of previous experience with interactive visual technologies and stage performances;
- At least 3 years of previous experience with video technologies and technical theatre, with specific training in electronics and theatrical lighting systems;
- Ability to lead and mentor a team; Previous experience with this is an asset;
- Previous experience working with:
o Hardware and software Video Recording, Editing, and Compression;
o Technologies such as DVI, HDMI, Fiber Optics and Computer RAID Systems;
o Large format digital video projector hardware, setup and calibration;
o Video technologies and technical theatre, with specific training in electronics and theatrical lighting systems;
o Programming, operating and maintaining Coolux, or other industry Media Server Playback systems and using their affiliated hardware and software;
o Live camera cable management.
- Ability to do Special Events Integration;
- Ability to utilize Live and Record Camera Operations;
- Ability to manage interdepartmental cooperation with cue tracks;
- Ability to utilize content management on servers and storage drives;
- Working knowledge of:
o MIDI and DMX;
o Ethernet and wireless technology (TCIP/IP, UDP, Switches, Firewalls.);
o Real Time Graphics, including setup of graphics cards and capture cards;
o PC and Mac Operating Platforms; MS Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook; PC hardware set-up, maintenance and administration;
o Final Cut Pro X, Motion, or other industry standard editing packages;
o Full Adobe graphics suite, including After Effects is essential;
- Ability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays;
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: working in a harness, crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs unassisted, etc.; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer. - 30-hour OSHA course completion card required;
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
- Verification of the right to work in the United States for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization;
