Description:Job PostingEffective Immediately 8-11-21 Seeking Clown/Physical Theatre Teacher for Dedicated Circus Troupes Kinetic Arts Center, Oakland, CA www.kineticartscenter.com Kinetic Arts Center is seeking a clown/physical theatre teacher to work closely with our youth circus troupes (Circus Gilly and Circus Spire) throughout the 2021-22 season in addition to developing clown/physical theatre classes to be added to our regular offerings. The ideal candidate would have experience working with ages 8 - 12 in Circus Gilly and 13 - 18 in Circus Spire (in addition to adults), working in collaboration with other artistic staff and coaches, and have a clear insight into the skills which make clown and physical theatre unique from general acting skills. This teacher would not be teaching the basic ‘styles and smiles’ of clown but rather the performance that comes from developing character and story through the study of improvisation and theatre exercises. Experience in understanding how to work with and teach buffonery, exaggerated movements, and masks are a plus. Both troupes are eager to learn the subtleties of clown and physical theatre on an individual and ensemble level. Training runs Sept - June culminating in substantive acts performed in annual shows in the spring. Acting teachers with the above qualities and skills are encouraged to apply as well as focused clown performers and teachers. Kinetic Arts Center is a unique circus school and performance company which honors the development of all circus skills - including clown/physical theatre. Furthermore, character and story development are integral parts of the training of each student in every class offering.
