This is a non-tenure track, 24 hour course load position. This faculty member will teach: Applied piano to all Piano majors; Collaborative Performance and Accompanying; Instrumental Pedagogy I and II; Theory I, II, and III as needed; Theory IV; Counterpoint, Form and Analysis; Choral Writing and Arranging, occasionally as needed
Additionally, Faculty member will oversee piano proficiency, accompanying duties of all pianists for vocalists, instrumentalists, and ensembles, enrollment and teaching duties in the Preparatory Department for community music studies, assignment of any Theory courses she/he does not teach
And as head of piano area, the Piano/Theory professor will assist the faculty in ensuring that all performers and ensembles have accompanists and keyboard collaborators as needed. This can often mean stepping in to be the pianist when no other keyboardist is available or none can be hired. Piano/ Theory professor will audition all incoming piano majors and minors, and assess the keyboard readiness of all other music major applicants as needed. Incoming students as well as transfer students needing theory assessment will also be the responsibility of the person holding this position.
This position oversees and schedules juries and examinations for all keyboard majors/minors and supervises and hires any adjunct piano instructors needed to round out the department's needs. Must be willing to attend and participate in the wide range of recitals and concerts offered by and for our students on campus and throughout the metro area. All faculty members take responsibility for encouraging and tracking student attendance at required department events.
Faculty member is expected to be a full partner in the life of the Bellarmine Music Department. Advising duties for piano majors and other students as assigned are an integral part of the position. While the position carries a 24 hour load, all full-time faculty members are expected to engage in scholarship and service. Job Requirements:
Master's degree in one of the fields above (Piano, Theory, Pedagogy, Performance) and experience teaching at the university level.
Willingness to engage in active participation in the local music scene, to engage local performers on campus and to participate in outreach and recruiting for the department and the university at large, including attending on campus and off campus events where students are recruited for the university.
Work toward a terminal degree is desirable.
