Nature and Scope of Work
The Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA), currently housed at Capilano University, is seeking an experienced instructor to teach body-based performance theory and practice across two courses: BPAC 404: Contemporary Performance Practices and BPAC 407: Studies in Interdisciplinary Performance and Production.

These courses are scheduled during the Summer 2021 term, running from May 10 to August 20.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to:
• develop lesson plans, assessment strategies and parameters, and engage in student evaluations;
• guide students in concept development, engaging in diverse creative processes, developing and realizing a final piece;
• support students with different skill sets and diverse creative, cultural, and educational backgrounds;
• employ critiquing and student engagement strategies;
• contribute to developing curriculum in a program that is committed to the interrelation of theory and practice within a trans-disciplinary, collaborative environment.

Required Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
• a Master’s Degree;
• a minimum of three years of professional experience alongside post-secondary teaching and practice-based research;
• a demonstrated and professionally recognized practice as a primary creator in one or more of: performance art, post -modern or contemporary dance, performance of everyday self, live art, body art, contemporary circus, tableau, performance-as-research, human body and digital media;
• academic expertise in one or more of the following: live art, 3rd and 4th wave feminist theory, queer studies, post-colonial studies, gender theory, critical race theory, presence theory;
• intercultural competence – the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with people of various cultures is expected.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
• experience in developing concept, engaging in diverse creative processes and realizing a final piece;
• experience working with students with different skill sets and diverse creative, cultural, and educational backgrounds;
• diverse knowledge in critiquing strategies and student engagement;
• post-secondary teaching experience (preferred);
• strong team, organizational, interpersonal, written communication skills; and presentations skills
