About the role
The Stage Manager (SM) holds a pivotal role within the production, acting as the linchpin for
communication across all teams involved. They coordinate every aspect of rehearsals, ensuring
that all elements of the production are synchronized and running smoothly. During
performances, the Stage Manager takes command, calling cues with precision to orchestrate
the seamless execution of actor entrances and exits. They are the backbone of the production,
maintaining order and control amidst the dynamic and often unpredictable environment of live theater, guaranteeing a polished and professional performance.
Responsibilities
Daily rehearsal space preparation and reset, in collaboration with ASM.
Oversight of ASM documentation, including blocking notes and character-specific direction as given by the Show Director
Delivery of daily rehearsal reports to General Managers and Show Directors, supporting creative and logistical continuity.
Serve as primary liaison between the Show Director, performers, and design/technical teams throughout rehearsals and performances.
Collaborate with ASM to determine and distribute daily cast reports via email, summarizing updates, notes, and calls.
Maintain consistent communication with the Production Director, Show Director, and Creative Director for status updates and escalation of issues.
Maintain and update the Run of Show throughout the rehearsal period, including integration of cues, blocking, and performance notes.
Execute live performances by calling all technical cues (lighting and sound) using an iPad and radio system shared with ASM.
Supervise all backstage operations and ensure smooth scene transitions in collaboration with ASM.
Preserve and enforce the artistic intent and integrity of the production during all performances
Monitor and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
Respond to and resolve any technical or performance-related issues in real time.
Oversee maintenance and reset of props and set pieces post-show, in partnership with ASM.
Ensure proper costume care and maintenance according to the costume care guide, with support from ASM.
Deliver timely “calls” to cast and crew to ensure punctuality and readiness.
Document and report all personnel or operational issues to the Production Director, Show Director, or Creative Director as appropriate.
