Description:Zip Zap is seeking a Circus Coach to manage the vocational training programme. The Circus Coach is a key member of our Teaching team. We are in need of a reliable and adaptable individual who is highly knowledgeable about acrobatic technique and able to work independently and in a team. Needs to be calm and creative with a good sense of humour to appreciate and survive the daily challenges ofsupporting a social circus that serves young people of various ages, abilities, and backgrounds. The position is in Cape Town, South Africa for a minimum of one year POSITION • Full time • Starting date: January 2022 • Reports to Programmes manager, Operations Manager, Artistic Director and CEO • 40 hours a week • Salary commensurate with experience (currently no benefits) RESPONSIBILITIES: • Floor monitor head coach / mentor for the vocational training programme called Dare2Dream (D2D) • Act and show creation for evaluations, shows, events • Implement current curriculum and update as necessary in agreement with Programmes team • Collaborate with and delegate activities to other instructors in implementing curriculum • Manage M&E requirements as required for the programme, in collaboration with the M&E officer • Manage and update schedules in regards to training activities. • Teach circus history and current circus techniques • Stage managing during performances (when required) • Ensure smooth communication between students and organisation • Oversee and/or offer technical support as required • Report on all activities monthly and yearly as per CEO requirements; • Participate and report in monthly EXCO, yearly strategy and all relevant meetings EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS • 7+ years of experience in Circus or acrobatic teaching and/ or performing • Knowledge of all circus disciplines at basic level • High skill level in teaching at least 3 circus disciplines (include gymnastics, tumbling, theatre & dance) • Current Driver’s Licence • Senior First Aid Certificate • Clear Police Clearance certificate COMPETENCIES • Great organizational skills • Ability to prioritize and multitask under pressure • Willingness to work within a flexible schedule • Understanding that we are teaching life skills as well as circus arts • Demonstrate integrity and good judgment • Logical thinking and a sense of humour • Problem solving • Ability to be hands-on in all aspects of the programme • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and ability to be actively involved in training • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (including written and electronic) • Willingness to receive direction and feedback • Teamwork and time management skills • Ability to communicate with a broad range of people within artistic and industrial environments. • Methodical and positive approach to problem-solving • Intermediate knowledge of lighting and audio equipment • Intermediate knowledge of acrobatic rigging • Health & safety compliant Advantages of the position include access to personal training facilities, an exciting, vibrant work environment, the opportunity to perform, and collaborating with diverse colleagues and students to make positive change in society.
