YOUR MISSION

Reporting to the Technical Director and working in cooperation with the Artistic Director, the Head of Carpentry and Props will be a highly motivated individual who is inspired and keen to contribute to and improve the show quality & technical operations of the show.
• Carry out staging and set operations as well as maintenance activities;
• Supervise backstage area and equipment;
• Maintain the integrity of artistic concepts.
• Maintain, repair and replacement of existing props;
• Maintain of the integrity of the artistic concept;
• Follow and support the equipment and inventory management procedures and requirements as required by Cirque du Soleil;
• Utilize the tools and procedures provided by IHQ to maintain inventory and equipment data;
• Follow the requirements detailed by the Customs and Logistics departments for the transport of material with touring productions;
• Update the props archives and inventory, technical and customs documentation;
• Work in conjunction with the International Headquarters (IHQ) on technical issues;
• Ensure that swing technicians and technical staff (Cirque and temporary employees) adhere to standards and regulations pertaining to the safety of props, employees, staging, set safety and comply with safe working methods;
• Coordinate activities and supervise personnel during the setup and tear-down of staging and sets along with the coordinating the activities related to props;
• Serve as crew chief during the setup, operation and tear-down of technical and artistic facilities;
• Participate in setup and tear-down;
• Supervise and train the set crew (swing technicians);
• Assist the Director - Technical in managing departmental budgets and capital expense projections;
• Attend departmental meetings;
• Perform any other tasks requested by the Director - Technical.

Tasks specific to Carpentry:
• Manage and supervise all aspects of staging and set operations during shows;
• Offer technical assistance during performances and rehearsals;
• Ensure safety and security with respect to staging and sets;
• Inspect and maintain all staging and sets and keep records of inspections and modifications;
• Update staging and sets archives, inventory, technical documentation and customs documentation;

Tasks Specific to Props:
• Manage and supervise all operations of the props department;
• At the request of the Director - Technical and Artistic Director, research the possibility of acquiring new props for performers;
• Ensure the safety and security of props;
• Inspect and maintain all props and keep record of inspections and modifications;
• Conduct research and order and/or purchase new and/or replacement equipment;
• Keep artistic personnel well informed of changes or modifications to props;

YOUR UNIQUE EXPERTISE
• College diploma (or the equivalent) in live entertainment or theatre production (or equivalent work experience);
• Minimum of six to eight years' relevant experience in Carpentry;
• Two to four years of relevant experience Props;
• Flexible, autonomous and team-spirited;
• Good communication skills;
• Able/Ability to handle contingencies and work well under pressure;
• A good general understanding of all technical aspects of a show is an asset;
• Knowledge of both Microsoft applications for Windows and AutoCAD;
• Personnel management experience;
• Fluency in spoken and written English is essential; any additional language (spoken and/or written) is an asset;
• Availability to tour internationally full time and to work in foreign countries.
