Description:
GENERAL JOB STATEMENT: The Head of Hair and Makeup leads the hair and makeup department to execute all hair and makeup effects as designed. This role includes helping the designer schedule, construct, and maintain wig inventory, assisting performers with pre-show looks and post-show clean-up, and organizing at least one one-hour department-specific educational workshop for the apprentice program.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Construct new wigs, style in-stock wigs, and prepare makeup looks for performers.
Assist with wig and hairpiece applications before and during performances.
Assist with makeup applications before and during performances.
Attend wig fittings and document notes based on these fittings.
Maintain shared and individual workspaces, stock, and materials storage.
Meet deadlines, including scheduled fittings, dress rehearsals, and completion of work.
Organize prep work before and during the post-build period, such as pulling and restocking, preparing orders, and providing information for each production.
Purchase materials, supplies, and wigs as assigned by the designer/supervisor.
Organize at least one one-hour department-specific educational workshop for the apprentice program.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Perform any additional tasks as requested by the Director of Production.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
3 years of experience in hair and makeup methodologies and practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Advanced knowledge of makeup and wig-making techniques.
Willingness to learn new techniques and methods in the field.
