Head Carpenter – 5th Avenue Theatre (Seattle, WA)
Wage: $43/hour
Benefits: As outlined in STG’s contract with IATSE Local 15

The Head Carpenter works on all shows and events that require the use of the Stage Department at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle when STG is promoting in the space. Events include corporate events, dance, comedy, musical acts, and more.

Responsibilities include working with the Production Manager to ensure the safe operation of the stage, supervising and assigning local crews, and collaborating with other stage departments to meet the needs of each production. This role also involves working with all departments for non-departmental shows (i.e., Non-Yellow Card shows) as directed by the Production Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
(Other duties may be assigned)

Ability to work collaboratively with house crew, Local IATSE overhire crew, road crew, and clients.

Communicate and coordinate with the Production Manager regarding work duties and priorities.

Lead crews of varying sizes effectively.

Adapt to changing show priorities and fluctuating schedules positively.

Lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.

Work safely and reliably under pressure and during long hours.

Take initiative on work assignments and complete tasks independently.

Act as the primary contact with clients on and backstage to assess day-of-show needs.

Qualifications
Working knowledge of traditional stage carpentry, including maintaining stage equipment such as soft goods, stage surfaces, fly systems, carpentry pieces, and grid work.

Proficiency with power and hand tools.

Comfortable working at heights and from elevated positions.

Strong attention to detail.

Ability to run show cues.

General working knowledge of lighting and sound equipment.

Speaking additional languages (e.g., Spanish or ASL) is a plus.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Vision: Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary.

Mobility: Approximately 80% of the time is spent standing and walking.
