LOCATION: Virginia Repertory Theatre – Central Virginia’s largest nonprofit, professional theatre company
REPORTS TO: Production Manager
STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
SALARY: $36,000–$40,000 annually, commensurate with experience
START DATE: On or around July 28, 2025

POSITION SUMMARY
Virginia Repertory Theatre is seeking a General Technician to join our full-time production staff. You’ll work as part of a collaborative team to implement technical needs for our full season of programming and events across multiple venues. Applicants should have a combination of skills in at least two of the following areas:

TECHNICAL SKILLS (At least two areas required)
Carpentry

Assist scenic staff in construction, installation, strike, and shop maintenance
Must have basic theatrical carpentry knowledge, hand/power tool proficiency, and the ability to read construction drafts
Electrics

Assist the Production Electrician with lighting equipment, hang/focus, programming, and student crew supervision
Knowledge of theatrical lighting systems (ETC Ion console, fixtures, cabling) and comfort working at heights required
Sound/Projection

Assist A/V Supervisor with setup, maintenance, and programming of audio/visual systems
Knowledge of wired/wireless mics, speakers, QLab, projection equipment, and live sound mixing preferred
Scenic Painting

Support Scenic Charge with base coating and scenic techniques
Basic painting knowledge, color mixing skills, and ability to follow instructions required
Portfolio required with application
Props

Assist Props Supervisor in sourcing or fabricating set dressing, furniture, and hand props
Research, construction, and sewing skills preferred
Portfolio required with application

RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate under the Production Manager to complete daily production tasks
Support construction, rehearsals, load-ins, performances, and strikes for multiple shows
Maintain clean, safe, and organized workspaces and equipment
Serve on running crew as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Personable, positive, and culturally competent team player
Strong communication and time management skills
Working theatrical knowledge in chosen technical focus areas
Ability to read CAD drawings; knowledge of drafting software a plus
Comfort using industry-standard tools and working at heights
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred
Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and work in low-light conditions
Understanding of OSHA and industry safety standards
