Edinburgh International Festival is the world’s leading performing arts festival. For three weeks in August, Scotland’s capital becomes an unparalleled celebration of the performing arts and an annual meeting point for people of all nations. With a programme that spans opera, music, theatre and dance, the Festival celebrates artistic excellence, internationalism and innovative programming.
After an exceptional eight-year period delivering highly acclaimed programmes, our current Festival Director, Fergus Linehan, will complete his tenure in September 2022. To succeed him, the Board seeks an exceptional new Festival Director who will bring vision, ambition, and innovation to shape the future of the Festival. Our new Director will invite the finest global performers to the renowned stages of Edinburgh’s venues alongside a digital programme that gives global audiences access to the Festival from their own home. Together we will build on the Festival’s reputation as one of the world’s most significant cultural events, driving diversity within the artistic programme and within contemporary society and ensuring the organisational culture is inclusive, artistically bold and commercially ambitious.
Our ideal candidate will be a recognised and internationally respected artistic leader, with a reputation for excellent and innovative programming with experience realising bold, high-profile ideas. They will have a track record in creating successful, large-scale events and managing significant budgets, together with the ability to develop productive relationships with a diverse range of individuals and organisations. They will also have excellent communication skills internally and in the public arena.
