Bourges was designated European Capital of Culture for 2028, following a multi-year competition.
A non-profit organization (loi 1901) is leading the implementation project, bringing together the City of Bourges, the Bourges Plus Urban Area, the Cher Department, the Centre-Val de Loire Region, and the French government. Steeped in a rich cultural history and exceptional heritage, Bourges is reinventing itself to become a dynamic hub of European creativity.
The goal is to create a European Capital of Culture on a human scale in a city with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants and within the regional territory. Our capital will also aim to meet the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement.
Job Description
Under the authority of the artistic curator and in conjunction with the production teams and curators associated with Bourges 2028, the employee is responsible for the operational implementation of exhibition projects in compliance with the quality objectives and resources allocated to production and the legal, regulatory, and safety requirements in place within the European Capital of Culture. This work is carried out in close collaboration with the association's administrator and the production administrator.
The exhibition production manager will carry out the following main missions:
1. Administration / finance
- Establishment and monitoring of provisional budgets, with the production administration, for each of the projects in close collaboration with the associated teams, the partner structures of the territory and the administration
- Ensure the monitoring of missions, their subsequent commitments and invoicing in relation to the budget monitoring officers of the department
- Monitoring compliance with the analytical accounting of the projects
- Contribution to the development and implementation of management and reporting tools, established jointly with the administrator and the production administration
2. Production
- Contractualization with the various stakeholders (artists, partners, service providers, etc.) in conjunction with the legal advisor
- Negotiation of the conditions of remuneration of the various participants in the productions
- Development, monitoring and updating of the lists of works of the exhibitions according to the directives of the curators and in conjunction with the general commissioner
- Ensure the link with museums, lenders requested, …
- Liaise with insurers and brokers, negotiate insurance contracts, manage claims and their follow-up
- Preparation of transport contracts, analysis of offers in conjunction with the purchasing/contracts department and management of operational monitoring with the selected carrier (deadlines and delivery times, works assessments, etc.)
- Preparation of contracts concerning other lots such as scenography, fittings, signage, lighting, etc.
- Monitoring the completion of operations in conjunction with stakeholders and service providers, monitoring the progress of construction sites and checking the works carried out, preparing reports
- Monitoring calls for projects, seeking sources of funding and selecting calls for projects with the artistic commissioner
- Participation in the construction of projects by mobilizing financial, material, administrative and legal data, and in close collaboration with the administration teams
- Participation in the reflection on reducing the carbon impact of the production of exhibitions
Description of the profile sought
1. Prerequisites
- Solid experience and proven references in equivalent responsibilities
- Expertise in the museum sector, foundation, art center, contemporary art biennial and projects with a strong international dimension
- Good understanding of issues relating to performing arts and visual arts projects
- Good knowledge and interest in art history
- Very good knowledge of contracts specific to performing arts and visual arts
2. Skills and interpersonal skills
- Proven knowledge and practice of international institutional circuits and networks
- Knowledge of procedures relating to public procurement and competitive bidding
- Knowledge and taste for working in project mode
- Mastery of production techniques specific to exhibitions
- Acute interpersonal skills and sense of diplomacy
- Sense of organization, forecasting and anticipation
- Great rigor, analytical and synthesis skills
- Good command of administrative, legal and financial rules
- Negotiation skills
- Mastery of IT tools
- Great sensitivity to environmental and CSR issues
- Ability to be mobile (regional territory) and B license appreciated
- Good level of English
