Educational Director - Puppetry Schoolexpired

Bare Hands Theater

France France, Paris
Posted on: Apr. 07, 2025

Description:

The Théâtre aux Mains Nues, founded in 1976 by Alain Recoing, is a venue dedicated to the arts of puppetry. It has been recognized as an LCMC (Lieu Compagnie Missionné pour le Compagnonnage) since 2017 by the Ministry of Culture. Heir to a unique artistic heritage, that of glove puppetry, it strives to transmit it and promote its multiple futures. Historically, the structure developed around a school. Training is at the heart of its project: it is this that makes the place unique, and which gives coherence to all its other activities (residency, companionship, programming, and cultural action). The school now has the QUALIOPI label and awards a diploma registered with the RNCP (level IV). In puppetry, it is the only venue to offer a continuing education diploma course.

The Théâtre aux Mains Nues has several premises located in the 20th arrondissement of Paris:

At 7 square des Cardeurs (school):
- A studio for classes and residencies,
- A construction workshop.

At 43 rue du Clos (theater):
- A "trial theater", dedicated to students, companions, and the professional integration of teams supported by the TMN,
- An exhibition hall,
- A specialized library accessible to students.

Today, the Théâtre aux Mains Nues employs around thirty teachers per season. It provides an average of 900 hours of classes per year to 85 students, distributed as follows:

- The "puppeteer" training, 507 hours per year,
- The "fundamentals of glove puppetry" training, 170 hours per year,
- Several thematic courses, from 35 to 70 hours each,
- Two "meetings with an artist", 21 hours each,
- Two amateur workshops, 35 hours per year each.

With agreements with the City of Paris, the Ile-de-France Region and the DRAC Ile-de-France, the Théâtre aux Mains Nues is a partner of the Théâtre de la Marionnette in Paris within the framework of the CNMa. A merger of the two structures is currently being developed. Indeed, in line with the partnership agreement associating the TMN and the TMP, and to meet the requirements of the National Puppetry Centers labels, the boards of directors and financial partners of the two structures are considering a strategic merger and a single general management whose mission would be to develop and implement an artistic and cultural project of general interest, taking into account the entire sector, from training to dissemination, including creation and documentation.
