Description:SummaryThe Hartt School at the University of Hartford (CT) is seeking a full-time Director of Theater Operations and Production. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of theater operations and production for The Hartt School’s Music, Dance, Theatre and Community divisions. The Hartt School is an internationally acclaimed school of performing arts within a university, offering performance-oriented and other majors in music, dance, and theatre. Requirements Manages Hartt performance spaces and oversees the operation and execution of Hartt performances and productions. Creates budgets, cost estimates, and budgetary breakdowns for technical work for productions, including sets, props, lights, costumes, special technical needs, etc. on a show-by-show basis. Orders materials and supplies and oversees and monitors all expense budgets associated with Hartt productions. Contracts with designers and works collaboratively with designers and directors regarding production related opportunities including, but not limited to, physical restrictions, time schedules, available labor, shop capabilities, safety and feasibility within available production budgets. Participates as a member of the Dean’s Leadership Council and attends weekly meetings with the Dean. Establishes a schedule for all Hartt production activities and performances. Calendars and schedules all theater spaces and schedules including inputting into university calendaring software program. Determines dates for design deadlines, load-in, painting, hang, focus, cueing, and level-setting sessions. Coordinates and oversees student intern positions in theatrical organizations and events both on and off campus. Manages all technical theater personnel including, but not limited to, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating a staff of electricians, carpenters, properties staff, running crews, and various technical theater specialists on a show-by-show basis for campus-wide projects and events staged within Hartt theaters. Establishes, cultivates, and maintains effective working relationships with visiting production personnel, campus departments, student workforces, and external organizations in an effort to determine over-hires and other technical needs of each performance and/or event. Oversees the engineering of scenic construction and installation for maximum cost efficiency and safety. Schedules, supervises, and oversees all activities involved in sets, props, lights, sound recording, painting, focus, levels, load-in, etc. Provides training as necessary and/or appropriate. Relocation funds are available.
