Description:
The Lannion-Trégor urban community is located in the Côtes-d'Armor department, in the north of the Brittany region. It is made up of 57 municipalities and corresponds to an area of 919 km².
Lannion is located 3 hours 15 minutes from Paris by TGV and by road, 1 hour 45 minutes from Rennes, 45 minutes from Saint-Brieuc, 1 hour 15 minutes from Brest, and 3 hours from Nantes.
With 103,412 inhabitants (INSEE 2020) Lannion-Trégor Community is the second public intercommunal cooperation establishment in the Côtes-d'Armor department.
Labeled “Land of art and history” thanks to the richness of its built and intangible cultural heritage, the territory offers a privileged living environment, between sea and countryside, and benefits from great cultural vitality due to the diversity of the associative fabric and a significant artistic presence.
Opened in January 1991, the Carré Magique was originally a multidisciplinary city theater managed by a cultural development association. The growing place of circus arts within the artistic and cultural project of the association led the latter to be labeled Pôle cirque in 2001 then Pôle national Cirque in 2011. Le Carré Magique constitutes to date the only Pôle national circus de la Brittany region.
Meeting the specifications of the Ministry of Culture in terms of support for circus arts, the Carré Magique nevertheless maintains a multidisciplinary program open to other disciplines of live performance. In addition to the artistic seasons, the Carrémagique implements various circus highlights such as the Gare au Gorille festival, circus biennial, off-site programming, etc.
Le Carré Magique is supported for its artistic and cultural project by Lannion-Trégor Community (equipment recognized as being of community interest by transfer from the City of Lannion in 2005), the Department of Côtes d'Armor, the Brittany Region and the Ministry of Culture – DRAC Bretagne.
Le Carré Magique has an annual budget of around €1.6 million and a team of 11 permanent employees for 10.6 FTEs. The spaces consist of an 840-seat room and a 200 m² rehearsal studio.
