Knoxville Children+rsquo;s Theatre (KCT) is seeking an energetic and organized full-time PRODUCTION/DESIGN/TECHNICAL DIRECTOR (TD) to manage all areas of design in the+nbsp;production of an annual 10-show season, and help develop a quickly growing technical theatre educational program.
Knoxville Children+rsquo;s Theatre, an education-based 501(c)(3) non-profit, is a local theatre company producing professional quality plays for children, by children. At KCT, children under the age of 18 are the actors, designers, and stage managers. KCT also offers a directing intern program for students to train under the guidance of the Artistic Director which culminates in directing a production.
This position+nbsp;will be responsible for supervising and coordinating all technical aspects for all productions/theatrical events taking place in the theatre+nbsp;and working with students and adult design mentors to meet the high standards of the theatre.
The position will report directly to the Artistic Director and work closely with multiple guest and student directors. The TD will collaborate with and manage adult contract mentors and train students to produce high quality sets, costumes, properties, and lighting. Strong carpentry skills, good working knowledge of lighting and sound equipment, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and experience with keeping projects within budget is required.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A Bachelor's degree+nbsp;with an emphasis in theatre design/production/technology is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: At least two years of practical, professional work experience in technical production is required. Thorough understanding of all aspects of technical theatre including construction, lighting, costuming, properties, sound, and rigging. Crew management experience preferred.
SKILLS: A solid understanding of both design and production elements with the ability to help young designers complete design packages and implement+nbsp;them is required. The ability to maintain a ten-production season with at least 140 performances annually, work effectively with children, and create and manage budgets is required.
